Is killing insects, small plants, etc out of fear or by accident, still sinful?

Subhankar Zac

Hare Krishna,Hare Krishna,
I have tremendous Arachnophobia and often I kill tarantulas that simply pop up in the walls of my room by spraying them with poisonous chemicals.
I couldn't just throw it out of the room since I m really terrified of going near it.
But after killing it, I do feel guilty and sad.

I also evade insects, like ants on the streets but often it's difficult to see them while walking, mainly when you're late for your classes.

I try not to pluck leaves or flowers from plants either, though during some festivals we have to.

However intentionally I try not to harm any insect or plant (plants maybe for food) but is killing insects, plants, etc without any reason by accident or killing spiders out of fear (okay, that might be a sin) still sinful?

I kill any insect or arachnid that comes in my house. I am aware they are animals, but if i do nothing, they will fester in my house. I also have arachnophobia. A daddy long leg will get the gas from me. I live in Australia, and i have never seen a tarantula in my house. If i did, i would flip out. hard. Maybe i should apologise after their death... :(

Why is Vaishnava one of your tags? Rather specific.

But AHIMSA against animals, birds, insects, plants, etc are core values of Vaishnavism... Is it not?

Cockroachs i kill them all but who doesn't ?

I don't think it's a sin if you are afraid of them and they are in your house.

But how is it our house? Aren't we invading the areas of animals and insects and building houses over it?
We're still invading the homes of other animals and species.

I think so too, but still I doubt that it will be forgiven.

I think many of them invide our houses.
For exemple cockroachs like humidity and find food in our houses.
How it comes we never see them outside ? They are always in houses (at least in some countries).

I can understand if you have a garden but in a building no.
But someone who intentionnaly kill them when they are outside i think it's bad probably a sin.

Mosquitoes and sometimes ants are the only ones I kill regularly. Though with ants I only kill them if they come in large numbers and it's been years since I had to. Cockroaches we don't have but I'd kill those. Flys, bees, spiders, wasps I don't kill and have a plastic cup I catch them in and let them go out.

When we boil water for tea etc, huge number of microscopic living things parish.
For human's health, sanitation, self-defense, disease, safety of house or around etc reasons.....we can get rid to these little things but not for no reason.....In the universe of God they have their rights to live being part of echo system.

I have a great love of nature, but nature kills itself all of the time and often for no reason. Killing pests is generally defensive, so it's hard to inject morality there. Killing other things is generally a waste. I have no moral dilemma about it, but killing for no reason at all is just abuse. If I am going to eat the animal then I am working with nature, but just killing because I have nothing better to do? Bah..

We cannot live without killing a plant, animal, or whatever just because of how we are created. In an ideal sense, I rather kill nothing at all but I know it is completely unrealistic. As soon as they make synthetic bacon that tastes like the real thing I'm onboard though. :)

Peace be on you....After general cleaning and before leaving the kitchen at night,
1=a little cockroach-spray at cabinet hinges
2=if there is gas stove, placing a inverted cup like utensil over each rounded burner of stove (fully cover the tinny holes for gas),

can drastically cut their population (they like heat, humidity and tinny places to grow; they multiply a lot in one night)

If you don't like mosquitoes, keep those handy. They are mosquito HAWKS. They eat mosquitoes. :)

Yeah, there's a difference between:

"I would soooo like to avoid getting sick or having my house eaten up"
and
"LOL, DIE, ANT!"

Where does one draw the line? Do Jain monks avoid antibiotics?

Personally, I have no problem with killing if it's done with justifiable reasons and humanely. I eat meat, but only free-range. I kill flies (hygiene) and spiders (fear), but gently escort bees and wasps outside. I also pick up snails from wet streets and put them in the nearest garden, but only if the garden's owner isn't watching!

3=In some months when sun light is felt brighter, there are lot of Flies outside the door. To deter them, use a transparent polythene bag with about one liter water, close its end and hang it in open area with flies.......Soon they shall be gone [their multiple eyes do not like light reflection and refraction from clean water].

I view such as a force of nature of which we are a part of. Sometimes things happen that way. It's not sinful. Just nature itself imv.
