Exodus 20:4-6 New International Version (NIV)
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

Are Jesus figurines on the dashboard a graven image? Are we to worship God with no image or are we to worship the graven image of Jesus?

What the hey. Anyway, images aren't graven and thinking they are just messes you up. So, don't do it.

Seems like no drawings, no pictures, no videos, no recreations at all. But, we know that wasn't the intent, considering Moses did it himself.

It's okay sometimes to worship statues... Sometimes... as long as they look very, very realistic.

I think the commandment sets in place.....God is Spirit
no graven image can display God's nature

I see it more as a religious talisman. There's something about actually seeing a symbolic object that contributes to comfort and well-being. I have a dream catcher and would love a photo of lama Dorje in blue jeans hanging off my rearview mirror in my vehicle flapping away in the Wind.

Its just depicting an visible image, of an visible image, of an invisible god. Seeing jesus as god is a form of idolatry.

It's an interesting aspect of religion. I don't think too many people would be able to practice their religion without some kind of physical symbolism or icon.

I'm not aware of too many religions off the top of my head that don't have some kind of physical representation.

The further from physical representation, the more I think New Age. I heard from one catholic: we use ALL our senses to talk to god.

Maybe you need to read Exodus 20:4-6
    Again. It's very plain.
If you read Verse 5, if a person makes a graven image and bow down to it, That is strongly prohibited.

There's nothing wrong in having a graven image, The wrong is when a person bows down to it, in worshipping it.

The scripture seems clear to me. Pictures of anything are forbidden.

Moses did it? Are you seriously looking for consistency in the Bible? [IMG]

That's Islam. Christianity isn't so much into banning anime/comics/drawings.

Perfectly okay, unless you are like listening to it every five hours or something.

Let's have the commandment in context.

"Do not draw pictures or make statues?" No.

    "Do not create artwork?" No.

"4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."

Bowing down and serving an object. A square rock. Idolatry.

Statues of saints? Not bowed down to. Alright, what about Jesus?

    No. Why not, you ask?

Read the passage again. God is a jealous God. As the doctrine of Trinity is clear to say, Jesus is not the Father nor the Holy Spirit, but all three are God.

A jealous God will not become jealous if you bow down to an image that is the very image of what is your God.

The scripture is pretty clear. It doesn't specify any particular context.

Ever watch Avatar the Last Airbender (NOT the M Night Shaylaman movie)? They have the scene where a blind girl who is a living lie detector hears two people and declares suddenly "they're both telling the truth." A person who is misinformed or brainwashed does not believe they are lying, so they aren't.

What is the truth? Israel took Palestine from the Palestinians. But these Palestines are NOT the people who make such a claim nowadays, they are descendants of Saudis who expanded from Mecca. There were the Phillistines, a group of people who were gobbled up by the unification of Israel. There is no Palestine any more, because the real Phillistines are extinct.

    https://www.quora.com/Are-the-Pales...ted-the-name-Palestine/answer/Mark-L-Levinson

The current "Palestines" were people roughly 900 years late to the party, who wound up with land stolen by the Romans. That's Israel's truth.

    Palestine's truth is irrelevant. Why?

    2 Samuel 12 :1-9.

The nations of Islam have been given many lands. Yet rather than be satisfied by them, they want the land of a religion who only has one nation to govern.

The Middle East is not complicated at all. Muslims can stay in their lands and be happy with what they have.

On the other hand, they can...

NO, there is no other hand.

What are you talking about? Who cares about stupid words. People in the real world do not have to be treated so badly for any reason. This more human rights issue. It's really sad you can't see it that way.
