IS IT ALIVE?.....IS IT ALIVE?

And we ourselves are energy.
Er, not true, actually. We have energy, but we are not energy.

Although it is a popular misconception, thanks to Star Trek etc, energy is not "stuff". You can't have a jug of energy. Energy is just a property of a physical system, like mass, or electric charge, or momentum.

How about "tardigrades?" They can dry up completely - a special sugar crystallizing inside them and holding all their internal structures in place, and when/if the water returns it dissolves the sugar, and the tiny creatures just go about their business again. It is said that they can remain dormant for up to 30 years! Also from Google:
When returned to life, does it become a "retardigrade"?

yet another Frankenstein thread

as much as you are able.....note a fine line comparison

describe something living compared to it's dead counterpart

Definition of LIFE

By the definition of life, something alive must procreate. Therefore, if there is a horrible injury to testicles, and one cannot procreate, then one is not alive. Perhaps there is something wrong with the definition?

By the definition of life, it is a series of physical and mental experiences. So, one would be dead (while there) if placed in a sensory deprivation chamber.

Life is also defined as "period of existence" which means that if our spirit lives on, we are still alive.

Life is animate activity or movement. So, some stationary plants might not be alive.

Life requires growth. So, if a person is fully grown, they cannot grow anymore, so they are dead.

Life of the party (drunk, dancing with a lampshade on your head).

Life is what distinguishes inorganic matter and organic matter. But what about chemicals that react to their environment?

Does sentient life include artificially intelligent computers?

The fine comparison line is not always so fine, but still distinguishes something sentient from non-. In my work, I'm bombarded with comparing the living with the dead for analysis, but thankfully not faced with playing God in life/death situations. Still I notice somehow both living and dead humans walking amongst us.
