Is Islam a Religion only for Arabs?

Is Islam a Religion only for Arabs?

The fastest way to prove that this is completely false is to state the fact that only about 15% to 20% of the Muslims in the world are Arabs. There are more Indian Muslims than Arab Muslims, and more Indonesian Muslims than Indian Muslims!

Believing that Islam is only a religion for Arabs is a myth that was spread by the enemies of Islam early in its history. This mistaken assumption is possibly based on the fact that most of the first generation of Muslims were Arabs, the Qur'an is in Arabic and the Prophet Muhammad was an Arab.

However, both the teachings of Islam and the history of its spread show that the early Muslims made every effort to spread their message of Truth to all nations, races and peoples. Furthermore, it should be clarified that not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs. An Arab can be a Muslim, Christian, Jew, atheist - or of any other religion or ideology.

Also, many countries that some people consider to be "Arab" are not "Arab" at all -- such as Turkey and Iran (Persia). The people who live in these countries speak languages other than Arabic as their native tongues and are of a different ethnic heritage than the Arabs.

It is important to realize that from the very beginning of the mission of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, his followers came from a wide spectrum of individuals -- there was Bilal, the African slave; Suhaib, the Byzantine Roman; Ibn Salam, the Jewish Rabbi; and Salman, the Persian.

Since religious truth is eternal and unchanging, and mankind is one universal brotherhood, Islam teaches that Almighty God's revelations to mankind have always been consistent, clear and universal. The Truth of Islam is meant for all people regardless of race, nationality or linguistic background.

Taking a look at the Muslim World, from Bosnia to Nigeria and from Malaysia to Morocco is enough to prove that Islam is a Universal message for all of mankind --- not to mention the fact that significant numbers of Europeans and Americans of all races and ethnic backgrounds are coming into Islam.

Islam and Arabic culture are often confused though. The aspects that particlularly disgust many people in regards to Islam are often cultural practices shared by all denominations in the region. Honour killings, sexual inequality, intertribal violence etc all have a rich heritage in some areas but not in others. In Jordan for instance, I believe it is as normal for a Catholic father to seek revenge against his daughter and illegitimate lover (honour killing) as a Muslim.

It seems Arabic Islam dominates the finer points of theology and spirituality as opposed to weaker Western and African traditions.

Hi
How are you
But If you read a lot about the Arabic Traditions You will found that Islam remove a lot of Arabic Tradition Like :
1-Before the coming of Islam The Arab were buring the female infants because they think that the women make the family more poor because they don't work , and this buring was Arabic and Africans Tradition, but when the Islam Came, The Islam prevent this act.
2- Drinking the alcoholic drink was an Arabic Tradition before the Islam came . But when the Islam came , the Islam prevent it.

Well if someone else was to quantify my ethnicity and religion (tho' both things are self defined) they would put me in the box that said 'White British Muslim'. I won't venture any explanation of my ethnicity, by 2006 it is far too complicated, but they would at least have the religion part right.

Actually to lay the deen on you, everything in the universe is in submission to Allah/Eloah, even people who say they are not Muslim. Given that not an electron moves without his will, pretty hard not to be in submission. Islam considers the sun, the moon, the stars, the birds etc. all to be in submission. Thus none of us who were raised outside of the doctrine of Islam (whatever our 'races'/geographic breeding populations) have joined/converted, we have returned to our natural state, but not in unconscious submission, but with knowledge. As the famous song by Richie Havens says....

'Zippin’ up my boots
Goin’ back to my roots
To the place of my birth
Back down to earth
Not talkin’ ‘bout the roots in the land
I’m talkin’ ‘bout the roots in the man
Zippin’ up my boots
Gettin’ back to my roots
I’m homeward bound
Got my head turned around
Goin’ home, goin’ home
Goin’ home, where I do belong'

So what does that make you?

I would point out that the idea that Islam is meant only for Arabs is patently untrue.
I know many European-Americans-Cubans-red neck Muslims-Perisans. But there are plenty of examples of westerners converting to Islam - T.S. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia), Muhammad Pickthall (one of the most renowned translators of the Qur'an), Cat Stevens (American songwriter), Two highly renowned cardiac surgeons.
Accepting Islam is done by the same methods others accept Christianity - FAITH.

Scott

I once met a nice Muslim guy online and was telling him about my faith and the Noahide code and he said, "You are a Muslim!". I took it as a very nice comploment.

Islam would never been classified as a "world religion" if it wasn't open for open everyone. I have seen more and more converted westerners on the TV lately so I know that they are increasing in number. That is good, no one should be afraid of adopting the faith that feals right for them.

So? Does that mean that it has never been asked? Or that it isn't thought of? Maybe you're different, but I can imagine that for most people who were asked to picture a Muslim, the image of an arab would come to mind.

Shifty eyes, sweat on his forehead, probably counting the money from his take-away resturant, big bag full of ticking noises. Oh we've heard them all here. :p
