Is feminism still needed in the U.S.

oh, I'm not seeking to demonize, nor do I think any of the stuff out there currently needs to go away. I'm not necessarily even looking for a reduction, just a wider variety in what's offered and how women are portrayed. I understand aiming for an ideal when it comes to heroes but the thing is there are numerous different ideals that a hero can be designed to aspire to yet when it comes to female characters the ideal focused on is almost always sexiness. I want to see more female characters where the ideal is focused on strength or intelligence. That doesn't mean the other portrayals need to go away, there just needs to be a greater variety and a greater balance. Cause when I go to a comic book store and look for a comic about a female superhero that isn't designed like a masturbation fetish, I don't want to feel like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack.

I agree completely with the bolded part.

Though almost no male character who focuses on strength or intelligence or even charisma or even a good heart (nightwing, flash) are generally depicted as having less of the "voluptuous " male body looks.

I think we need more writtrs like Gail Simmone. She writes outstanding!

I think a reasonable thing to do is make some sort of constest for female script writters with Gail Simmone to judge and tutor the winner into becoming a new writter for the comic fold :D

I know she will want a good writer and will love to help such cause.

I think similar things should be done in other forms of media.

Aeriously though, I am sure in most US and Canada , women are waymore prone to show cleavage like clothing than men showing "cleavage" , show tighs in non uber hot weather than men showing such and show belly more than men showing belly .

In most places I am sure this would be the rule.

I have nothing against male superheroes with the costumes you showed moon, kudos to everyone involved if they have high sales.

Lets play fair, that has way more to do with how many woman do you see in the street showing belly and tighs vs how many men in the street you see showing belly and tighs :p

Come on, tell me you saw that :p

Men are always popping their tops off completely, so lots.

Nobody, male or female, dresses like this.

I don't know how she's able to manuever in that heavy, thick-plated armoured suit - can she even move her limbs in that gear?! Better hope she doesn't fall into a lake or she'll sink straight to the bottom.

Still, at least she'll be protected from attacks.

What on Earth is your point?

The whole idea of being fiction is to be over the top.

That is an over the top version of the attributes women do use. The difference is that it is over the top, so they are putting them all together.

I`ve never seen anyone gong around the streets like this neither:

I know, it makes no sense that male character were those things for the things they do on videogames does it? :p

Seriously, I find it really entertaining when people say women`s costumes arent "realistic" in fiction.

Heck, no one`s costumes are :p . If they were, they`d be boring :p

I love how my main superheroe`s are so totally body exposer :p

Nightwing and Flash are the almost most blatantly run around with body paint male superheroes around, only missing the green lanterns.

and you wanna tell me the cloth is non realistic :biglaugh:

that's not the point. The point is the focus when it comes to those costumes. When it comes to men the focus is on strength, which makes sense for a hero or fighter. When it comes to women the focus is on sex appeal, which does NOT make sense for a hero or fighter. I'm not asking for realistic, I'm asking for equal treatment. If we get to have muscular male heroes why can't we have muscular female heroes? or at the very least female heroes whose designs are not based on sex appeal first.

You honestly don't see anything wrong or at least questionable with this disparity?

And besides you can have costumes that are cool and still practical, green lantern and the flash are perfect examples.

Female superheroes are muscular. They're just not all diesel like the male ones. That just looks gross... Like female bodybuilders ...
Female superheroes are designed for sex appeal because that's what sells. Nobody cares about "equality" if they're not going to profit off of it.

A cape doesnt make sense for a hero or a fighter.

The Flash makes sense to a point mostly because no one is supposed to be able to put a finger on him in the first place. That`s not the reason he looks that way though. He looks that way because the whole superhero thing is to have extremely tight almost body paint looking costumes that show how much of a perfect anatomy you have.

Marvel tends to put more focus on women looking more muscular than DC does. I do would prefer most of them to look a bit more buffed, mostly cause that is my association with the genre, but that is no biggy.

As I said before, if you can dress a superhero the way the joke male characters were dressed and sell the comic, power to you, I see nothing wrong with that. I`d be surprised, sure , but by all means.

It`s a business. Make more options if you want, but pretending those superheroines dont sell well like that is a bit naive.

BTW did I say already that in DCUO forums there was a thread with a lot of women asking for fishnets, high heel shoes and "slutty" suits in general for their superheroes?

It`s a form that appeals to many women, and of course it appeals to men. Someone women dont like it. I dont know how many percentage wise. Many dont care that much over it. So... I honestly dont see a problem.

It would be like saying there is a problem on the porn industry because female workers are paid more than men. It`s nt a problem, its the way supply and demand works.

If you want to have a comic with a sexy male superhero showing his belly button chargin to battle butt first, I whole heartedly desire you luck :D (It would just be so terribly awesome to see that succeed :p )

Comic books are a fantasy outlet. Women want to see women they wish they could look like, and the same goes for men. And they each want a sexy version of the opposite sex they can fantasize about. I don't think many men fantasize about women that look like the Hulk
