Is a Flat Tax Fair?

Conservatives are always pushing for a "flat tax." It sounds so simple: One easy rate, so we all pay the same, easy to calculate... Get rid of deductions and lower the tax rates. But is it really fair?

Its fair imo. 10-15% (to be debated) no loopholes, no deductions, no breaks.

Poor man earns $10 he pays $1 to the govt in tax.

Rich man earns $10,000,000 he pays $1,000,000 to the govt in tax.

Clean cut simple, same would apply to corporations and business etc.

That one dollar you are taking away from the poor man might mean his next meal. 10% is a sizable chunk of change to a poor person whereas with Bill Gates he could lose a million in his couch and not miss a thing

The rich always find a way to not pay their share, so the burden would be on the lower and middle class.

It may sound fair, but it's not ethical. The saving grace for most place where it exists is that there is a cutoff line for poverty, and those below the line pay nothing.

Rich man makes 10mill pays 1mill he’s left with 9mil

Poor man makes $10 pays $1 he’s left with $9

You be the judge....

Its absolutely fair. Dont listen to those others who are trying to brainwash your innocent mind into believing the burden will fall on the poor. Thats a lie. If everyone pays the same percent, well, then eceryone pays the same burden.

Since its by %, the ritch still pay more in actual dollars.

Why is it not fair?

The poor man needs to work harder then. Cause if your life depends on just $1 it's a clear sign you effed up somewhere in life.

Having $9 left after a 10% is better than having $7.50 left from a roughly 25% tax we have now.

Because@jollybear Because we have a progressive tax system and because we have a democracy. People who make more do so because of the investment in government that We, the People make. We, the People pool our money collectively and use it to build the infrastructure that lets people make so much money. That's the roads, schools, police, courts, etc. -- the whole system -- that provides the foundation for our businesses to go out and compete in the world. And when our businesses do well, we ask them to pay back a dividend to the rest of us for enabling that to happen. In a flat tax system none of that happens
