It does for sure fit. Even the "don't look back", blindness/shockwave and all that.

Yeah. Lot and the kids arrived at the next town and feeling hungry they ordered chip/fries. And Lot said to the kids "i do wish your mother was here now, i can't stand chips/fries without salt"

This story certainly confirms my bias that some stories in the Bible have a historical basis while not being historically accurate. ;)

Abraham and Lot lived almost 350 years before this event. Tough luck for fundie literalists.

I agree that some or perhaps all stories in the Bible may not be historically accurate. In my opinion, I think the point of stories such as that of Sodom and Gomorra was to tell from a Hebrew/Israelite perspective why rather than how significant events occurred. The narration with all its literary devices (which includes characterization) was probably a way to keep the audience's attention and to help them feel the meaning of it. Without the narration, all the writer has is a monostich that might sound like this: 'The rock destroyed Sodom because the Lord was angry with Sodom.'

To play devil's advocate, I'm not sure why God couldn't have chosen a meteor or such to do this. I don't think it invalidates the story as is.
