Something I need to point out:

Stupidity and insanity are often confused, but are in fact completely different...

I freely admit to being a crank who maintains some crackpot ideas (although I only half believe them)

But I don't think it's fair to call me a "moron"

Look at Inri Cristo: Inri Cristo - Wikipedia

He is clearly bananas yet very astute

Also, some sane people are obviously unintelligent

    The two are different

It's a shame that I need to point this out

I think confusing the two is a form of ignorance

    Now that's just confusing!

    Who let you out?

Probably tastes good with chocolate, or peanut butter!
How did my brother get into this?
Please, point it somewhere else. It's pointy...it could hurt someone.

Er, this is the joke section, right?

In the real world you are correct but in Friendship and debate I would consider them equal.

What are you insane = What are you stupid

I think George Carlin outlines the distinction you might be looking for:

I actually accidentally cut myself with a butter knife yesterday.. I suppose I would say it is because I was having a moment wherein I was unthinking and impatient, as perhaps I didn't really think it was possible. At least, those are the conclusions that some introspection supplies. Objectively though, perhaps a person doesn't typically get themselves with a butterknife. To correct this, it's probably best to try and address my misunderstanding of reality from all angles. Trying to cheat reality, that comes the closest to how I imagine madness really works, as a layman. So perhaps there was a bit of that: I was trying to get it to work on the cold knob of butter, but it skidded off. Misunderstanding reality - this on the other hand, is how I understand a misconclusion of your intelligence. Perhaps there was a bit of that as well, as my mind didn't put together the physics on what could happen. The reason I say that I am both sane and sort of intelligent, however, is that I hope my miscalculations lack permanence, as I can appeal to objectivity to learn through errors, even if they sometimes rank below average
