Now they funnel billions of dollars to their rich cronies in exchange for big campaign contributions and perks, as always. It's what the government exists to do, now. It wasn't supposed to be it's purpose, but it has long since become it's main and only real function. Whenever both parties agree on anything, the result is going to be a feeding frenzy for the wealthy. Wars, bail-outs, tax breaks, infra-structure repairs; it's all about funneling billions into the pockets of the rich cronies that put them and keep them in office.

And we just keep on re-electing them.

The OP question is a good one. Now if those who are supposedly working for the American people would be willing to address job training and development as the NPR story said, it would be a winner.

Now if the right would ignore Trump's insistence that anything Democrats propose is automatically wrong and must be rejected or else, maybe progress could be made.

Actually, that's not as nuts as one might think, although I am not in favor of "open borders". We need a labor force especially in the unskilled and semi-skilled job market, so there's millions of people at our southern border who are more than willing to supply that. However, and I hate to say this, but all so many of the Trumpettes undoubtedly wouldn't want them in unless they "look like Norwegians", to use their fearless leader's own words.

It was a serious suggestion.

In the UK we have the same xenophobic types but it has been proved that most immigrants more than pay the way. They tend to be young and fit, therefore do not rely heavily on the health service but pay their taxes.
Many go back when they have earned sufficient money to live ok in their country of birth.

From the second article supplied in the OP it does not look as if it will be too difficult to add the cost of necessary training in another bill. That can happen quite often with legislation. A new ambitious program will require the development of other new programs down the road.

Both parties will always agree on feeding the rich lots and lots of money. Big conntracts with big crony-dollars attached. Doesn't matter were the money comes from: taxes, borrowed debt, whatever. It'll go the rich cronies that put them in office, and keep them there. A few peanuts will go to social programs just to make it look like they care about the American people. But it will be as little as they can get away with, and will have little positive effect. And we're talking about republicans AND democrats, here. Because in the end, they're both on the take. Top to bottom.

Sorry to be so pessimistic. But it's what'll happen.

I have a feeling if the gov't pays a good wage and gives good benefits they won't have too much trouble finding people to take the jobs.

But bigger picture-wise, the answer to "now what" is.....we begin years of major investments in our country, into areas that have been severely neglected for decades.

Smaller picture-wise, the answer should be nationwide promotion of this investment by Democrats. IOW, they'd be justified in taking a victory lap. The law is very popular with the public, so now they just need to own it.

Nobody has learned the lesson of this long lived time honored racket.

Make the promises that one cannot keep, see it pass, then cry unforseen circumstances forced their hand.

Go to Cancun and lounge beachside drinking Pina Coladas and heartily laugh at the pitiful suckered bunch.

Rinse , lather, repeat.

Fortunately, only 80 miles of new barriers for Trump's Wall had been built. Please rest assured, no more of Trump's Wall will ever get built, because most Americans don't want a U.S.-Mexico border wall, and Trump is not re-electable.

trump is not president. But McConnell did vote for this bill.

We elect representatives to help manage our society so we as a society can function and thrive. Fixing bridges and building more internet access is what is being funded.

Every state is getting money to fix and build what citizens need. If you think some states will conduct fraud, well that will be why need ethical watchdogs. We need ethical people in government, and we can see who are not quite easily.

Just out of curosity where do you get the idea the Trump is not re-electable?
