There is some truth to what you are saying, your targeting was just a bit off. Not all evidence is easily replicated. Sometimes we only get a limited number of chances to study something. Then that chance passes like the eclipse coming up this summer.

I see no evidence for that assertion. I do see plenty of evidence of people behaving as you describe being steamrolled by other people regularly, however.

Even more so, I see plenty of evidence that those that preach your golden rule are just as likely as anyone else not to follow it.

I don't deny any of that. This was a list of best ideas not current practices.

Not everybody is open minded today either
    Not everybody embraces differences either

They were my opinions of best ideas for the world, obviously I don't believe they are being practiced today and obviously you don't have to agree but I am not changing my opinion.

To use a metaphor, it is self defeating to act as a sheep in a world of wolves.

You should only believe things that give the best demonstrated explanation when it comes to scientific issues.
When it comes the philosophy, you should believe whatever makes you feel good.

    The hard answer:

Science matters: The fact is: Science works! Believing an idea that contradicts our reality, can lead to a very dangerous place!
    Philosophy matters: Obvious i assume.

Thanks for your reply George... In my view we are inter related .. all of us face crises. When I walk down the street and see an over hanging branch that's in a tree from the last wind storm and I'm tall enough and strong enough ... I take down that branch and place it along the side of the road where it is harmless. Now I could just ignore it.. but what if a mother is walking along with a baby carriage and the branch should collapse on her and the child. You see we can't anticipate all of the repercussions our lack of action can take.

My wife was a teacher and i was a social worker both of us were in helping professions and have a similar perspective on meeting the needs of people. When we don't look out for each other in life it falls back on us to bear the burden ... so the burden needs to be lightened.

So, if I may put these together, we should believe that "principles conveying our perspective and out looks are important," because this belief "influence(s) How we respond to problems." And believing such will guide us to act in a compassionate manner, which is important because we are connected and because we cannot or at least should not carry the burden alone?

Now there are a lot of beliefs/assumptions packed into all of that, but it does resonate a hopeful message. If I could distill your messages it would seem you are suggesting implying we should believe in the importance of others because it will lead toward compassion which we need.

    Is that fair?
