"In a Wise Move, New York Finally Ends Religious Exemptions for Required Vaccines"

I almost died due to my shots when I was young as I was allergic to something used in the shot. A fact the doctors had zero clue about because they didn't bother to check beforehand. Now I have medical exemption after the fact.

Nothing happened to the doctors

Doctors only know what they are told by the medical establishment, which in turn are controlled by the pharmaceutical industry, who fund the medical schools. Governments are dictated to by those with power and money....follow the money trail....ask what the anti-vaxers have to gain by sounding this warning and exposing the greed behind this whole vaccination business.

Are Vaccines Safe? Exposing the Dangers of Vaccines - Dangers of Vaccines

This was 7 years ago...there are even more now. What are we doing to our children? Its time to stop responding to this issue emotionally and start looking at who is profiting from this.

Are there any other situations in which this is required/authorized? Maybe prescribed-meds to patients in government-run health facilities? Prisoners in government-run prisons, maybe?

Yes to both. Both involve guardianship and wards of the state laws in which some or all decision are not longer the right of the individual. Although the issue with the NYC bill is public health while the comparisons are about public safety typically involving violence or a risk of harming others due to a condition. Hospitals can override a decline to medical treatment in some cases such as pregnancy which falls under negligence and self-harm. Red-tape varies depending on priority of the medical issue.

I also don't think it is fair to put responsibility for the activity of a virus squarely on the person who communicated it without further analysis of the situation. Does anyone really want us to get to a point where someone can be sued for contracting and spreading a virus unintentionally?

Some states have liability laws regarding spreading of disease like STDs with knowledge of it by the individual while withholding that information from their partner. This could be used to argue negligence combined with knowledge of a medical condition.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and Lawsuits

One place I can think of where this happens all the time is in classrooms. Should I hold the school responsible if my kid gets sick?

Only if the school fails to take active measure. The case below is about a student that got the chicken pox thus was banned from the school for a period of time as only 18% of the student population has the specific vaccine or had it already in the past. Based on the case this school had the legal authority to remove infected students for public health reasons. Schools can also close for outbreaks. So you would need to establish negligence with knowledge otherwise you would have to sue the parents on the same grounds and criteria.

How about in hospitals? Can I sue the hospital if a trip to the emergency room exposes me to illness and I get sick as a result?

You can sue but you have a high burden of proof to meet. This occurs without any vaccination issues.

Should I be able to sue over the activity of a virus which is outside of human control, let alone even awareness?

Knowledge and negligence is the legal requirement.

It is a gross lapse in procedure and even common sense not to consider negative reactions to a treatment before administrating it.

Last night, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill putting a stop to religious exemptions for required vaccinations.

Too many people had been using religious excuses to get their children out of getting their shots, and it was creating a public health crisis, especially in Orthodox Jewish communities.

This bill, A.2371, closed that loophole for good.

“The science is crystal clear: Vaccines are safe, effective and the best way to keep our children safe. This administration has taken aggressive action to contain the measles outbreak, but given its scale, additional steps are needed to end this public health crisis,” Governor Cuomo said. “While I understand and respect freedom of religion, our first job is to protect the public health and by signing this measure into law, we will help prevent further transmissions and stop this outbreak right in its tracks.”
It’s the right move for the entire state. The only people who shouldn’t be required to get vaccines are people who have medical reasons for it. To use God as an excuse, putting the public’s health in jeopardy, is wildly irresponsible. The government needed to take action, and the Democratically controlled state did just that.

Science won out over religion, and public health won out over a faith-based death wish.

As far as excuses regarding inconveniences, close the loophole of ending life for preborns because they are an inconvenience

That is great news. Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective means to combat a large number of communicable diseases. Anything that prevents large pools of unvaccinated people from spreading easily controlled, but dangerous illness is a good thing.

You will never learn until it's too late. You're setting precedent for people to lose their rights in the future. Congrats!
Of course! The First Amendment right to infect other people!

Excellent point!

Yes, people further lose the right to put others at risk. Your right to swing your arm stops at the other person's face.
The argument is those that get the inoculations won't be at risk. Just those that don't will be a risk with each other.

If the state is going to take over the role of the parent, then it should also provide the kid with free food clothing and shelter......

After all , the Socialists always goes on how it's always about the children. I suppose The next step is forcing parents in giving their children over to the state for them to be raised how the state wants.

Now where has that scenario been played out in the past???

The idea is good. But the Socialists never does these with good intentions alone. There's always going to be a price to be paid with these people.

So nonsensical... it hurts.

There is also a controversy that there may be a link between vaccinations and autism.
This may not really be the case but since autism is on the rise parents may be concerned why
Do Vaccines Cause Autism? | History of Vaccines

In the case of New York most measles cases were in Orthodox Jewish areas and
I wonder if the law should have been more specific to measles and if alternatives have been explored. There is no question that Orthodox are concerned about their children, of course they are.

There are a variety of concerns over over vaccinations as well.

Other concerns listed here

I don't care what him or anyone thinks about it.

Creating new laws that forces people to accept medicine or treatment against their will is Orwellian to say the least.

Not that any of you care, you're too busy gloating to realize you just drove a nail in your own coffins.
The law does not force one to vaccinate one's kids. They only have to so if they wish to attend public schools. In other words, children that can spread those diseases will not be allowed in schools. Schools become a contagion some if the kids are not vaccinated.

I'm not an anti-vacciner.

I just think it's a huge mistake to force people to do it against their will.

I would want to make sure alternatives were explored and I don't believe in being heavy handed tossing out objections of conscience as well.

One good reason for a universal health care system would be a centralized uniform medical database where public health authorities could access and review each person's immunization record in order to determine which individuals lack immunization against communicable diseases posing a grave public health risk.
