Importance of Sunnah

Dear brothers in Islam, I was just reading an article regarding importance of Sunnah of Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), they mentioned a hadith

“I have indeed been given the Qur’an and something similar to it besides it. Yet, the time will come when a man leaning on his couch will say, ‘Follow the Qur’an only; what you find in it as halaal, take it as halaal, and what you find in it as haraam, take it as haraam.’ But truly, what the Messenger of Allah has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden.” (Reported by Abu Dawud and Darimi.)

it is for sure mentioning those people of this age who reject Sunnah and methods of Prophet peace be upon him. but do any of you know reference for this hadith?

Source : Sunan Abu Dawud , Book 40 , Hadith 4587
Grade : According to Tirmidhi : Hasan Gharib *
According to Albani : Hasan .

*A gharib hadith is a kind of categorization of hadith based on its chain. It is a kind of ahad hadith, which means that it's not narrated through an abundance of narrators at each level of the chain. Since this kind of categorization is only based on the number of people at each level of the chain (and not on their memory or trustworthiness), a gharib hadith can be sahih (authentic), hasan (acceptable), da`if (weak), or even other categories of authenticity. [Usul-e-Hadith]

Hope it helps .

Mohammad (peace be upon Mohammad and his holy family) said:

Fasten and hold knowledge and then protect it." He was asked that how could it be fastened, and he replied: "by writing and scribing it."

Quran is the word of God chosen by Him, protected by Him for future use.
The example of the Prophet and the words of the Prophet not included in the Quran are definitely a guide for us all - the Quran says 'You have in the Prophet of Allah an excellent exemplar for Him who hopes to meet with his Lord and remembers Allah much'.

The Haddith does not have the same level of protection and although there may be a apparently secure line of narrators it has to be subject to the Quran. If there is a difference the Quran must be given preference.

All men are fallible, God is not. BUT our understanding of both Quran and Haddith may be faulty!

It's a correct Hadith brother, and it's an argument against the so called "Quranit People", which in reality are far away from Quran.
