Revelation 3:10
From Planned Parenthood: As a new mother, I cannot imagine being forced to choose between my one-year-old’s health insurance and my family's right to remain in the United States. But that's exactly the choice some immigrants may face if the Trump-Pence administration's "public charge" rule goes into effect.
As an immigrant, a physician, and a public health leader, I find this policy unethical and unjust. Under the proposed rule, immigrants who access health care programs like Medicaid (or other public benefits they are legally allowed to access) could be denied admission to the country or refused a green card — driving immigrants further into the shadows and making it even less likely that they'll get the care they need. This rule isn't final yet, but time's running out to speak out: The deadline to voice your opposition to this rule in just days. Add your name to submit a comment to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) demanding they withdraw their harmful "public charge" rule. DHS has to read every unique comment, so make sure to personalize your note before sending!
This rule means a person could be penalized for using food assistance programs like SNAP to feed their children, Medicaid to get a checkup or fill a prescription, or public housing benefits to provide their family a safe place to live.
It would undermine the health of our entire country — millions of families would be impacted by this policy. If these families are forced to stop relying on public health programs and stop receiving care, the rates of disease — such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and the flu — will climb. And improvements we've made in infant and maternal mortality, among other important indicators of health, will reverse.
The health of a population depends on the health of its individual members. Speak out against the "public charge" rule by submitting a comment to the Department of Homeland Security now.
Like I said, this fight is especially personal to me, Dana.
When my parents and I immigrated to the U.S., we relied on Medicaid for health care. That care helped me have a safe, healthy childhood and gave me the foundation to chase my dreams as an adult.
We must stop the administration from unraveling the temporary safety nets that help immigrants make a better life for their children. Help us stop this rule before it goes into effect by submitting a unique comment to the Department of Homeland Security.
Thanks for helping us stand strong for immigrants and for making sure everyonecan get the care they need, no matter what.
