For being thousands of years old, yoga has held up pretty well to scientific scrutiny. But the newest movement science and functional movement ideas have made some improvements over yoga.

A Guide to Better Movement, by Todd Hargrove is a good place to start looking into functional movement.

But again, Yoga has held up pretty well :)

If it's Hatha Yoga, I recommend the downward dog posture.

I dont do praying, waste of time. But i do do yoga, 20 minutes every morning and gave done for years. Out of bed, spread out the mat, turn on the DVD and free up my body.

Don't do more than you body can take, if it hurts it wrong. Over time, as your body becomes more supple you will find yourself doing exercises that you found impossible previously.

ha ha ha ha thanks for reminding me about all the yoga fads. You've left out dog yoga, where people do yoga with pets sitting on them. Yes, its real. What's next? Parachute yoga is next. You do your yoga while falling from a plane. Yes I am making that last one up, but yes someone will start a fad about it.

I'll check that out thanks. I am so clumsy, so tight, and just all around uncoordinated. I could use any of the help I can get.
Whatever it is, my wife makes it look easy, and I can only keep up for 10 minutes before I get frustrated and any possibility for a peaceful practice is null. I've tried it about 5 times this year. Over the summer I did 3 sessions at a yoga studio; beginner class. Still, no love.
YouTube yoga that went from pose to pose to pose quite quickly. I should point out that I have an old ankle injury that complicates matters. ( Today I tried replacing warrior 1 with warrior 2, and it was a little easier. ) But honestly as soon as the pace picked up between the transitions, I got really frustrated.

Thanks for the advice. ( The pray for me comment was just a joke... )

But honestly, I think you have gotten to know my personality a little bit. I think I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to yoga; but I'm not sure what to do about it. I mean, how long does it take before it gets fun?

With injuries, you have to be extra slow, and extra careful. Old injuries may not be possible to cure, and sometimes we just have to accept that. I'd go to a really good physiotherapist for consultation. I have done that on a few old injuries, as I have several. My baseball arm pain has only one cure that works ... don't throw.

A decent yoga teacher might be of some help, but some are too forceful as well, and they make things worse. Lawsuits happen.
