Why not? Prescription medications are all drugs, which can have very bad side effects including death, and they're legal.

The more things that are NOT illegal, the better.

Hmmm, what gave you the first clue? Just because USNews https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings ranks Ill 50th in fiscal stability? What do you mean Ill has money problems? Just because the governor is being investigated by the FBI for removing 5 toilets from his North Shore mansion? Just because the previous goveror refused to pay ANY state financial debts for 3 years and it finally [took] Mega Millions pulling out of the state to get any action? What do you mean Illinois has financial problems?

    Yes, I live in Illinois.

I don't have a dog in the fight so I'm not voting. But I am for the decriminalization but not making it totally legal.

Decriminalize up to a certain amount maybe 1 oz.? For personal use medical or recreational doesn't matter. Anything more than that without a license to farm/distribute should still be illegal. It must be regulated like alchohol/tobacco for it to be successful and not get out of control.

How about something like opium dens? You go to a facility drink/get high and then sleep it off.

Ditto, but because I also know it is far less powerful than alcohol and wears off quickly. :D

Let's face it the only reason they're legalizing it is because it's the only way we'll avoid forming a lynch mob over higher taxes. :D

My only dislike of the provision right now is that people just can't grow a few plants. You can grow tobacco or make your own liquor so long as you're not attempting to sell it, I find this no different.

it's a fail in terms of taxes

to tax ANY item ...four points of control are required
    manufacture
    distribution
    sale
    use

alcohol was a problem until the four points were covered

marijuana has never been confined or controlled

that marijuana is labelled a controlled substance is a lie
and taxation will apply only upon those who will pay for the 'legal' stuff

    Indiana won't be far behind.
The Republican government here loves raising taxes, as long as it isn't their big donors who pay. They're not going to leave pot tax money on the table, or worse, give it to Illinois.

Well, unless the federal government amends marijuana's current Schedule A status states that do legalize recreational marijuana and license dispensaries are walking a tight rope.

It is bad enough that in many states where medical marijuana is legal those clients in turn surrender their gun rights under federal law. What happens in this case when recreational pot is legalized state wide without the MM card?
Dem's are always talking about restricting our unalienable right to own firearms. We're likely walking into a trap. Thinking the tax dollars will go far to make up for a state's budget deficit may actually not be with what it all costs the citizens in the end.
