Ask him what he thinks of de-funding the police and ending qualified immunity and if he would be willing to sign a petition in favour of them.

You take that back, you kilt lifting, sheep loving, ginger haired, befrackled Scott. My beverage of choice is coffee (as long as I'm not drinking malt). Only on very rare occasions would I sip tea like an Englishman.

What do you mean by defunding the police? I hear people talking about it but not sure what that means in practice.

Taking money and tasks away from the police. Mainly those tasks the police isn't meant to handle and isn't trained to handle, like talking to people with mental problems. Those tasks would go to social workers, psychologists, etc. The police would concentrate on crimes.

That makes sense, though in the small community (near) where I live there are only four cops total I think. But I could see how the approach you give could work in big towns and in cities.

I just found this story about one of my favorite small college towns where I visit often:

Reminds me of that town who did just that:
The City that Really Did Abolish the Police
There are others who followed suit after the riots last year. Some communities learned, others (see OP) not so much.

Oh God, Camden, NJ. Hopefully those reforms will help that blighted community. The article says that, while trained/deployed a bit differently, there are actually more cops there now than before (and with less pay).

"And then the city set about rebuilding the police force with an entirely new one under county control, using the opportunity to increase the number of cops on the streets and push through a number of now-heralded progressive police reforms. And with time, the changes started to stick in a department that just years earlier seemed unfixable."

Let's hope the reforms makes things better there (hard to see how it could be worse there).

Police have guns, tasers, batons, and vests for protections. They also have military gear like MRAPS, machine guns, and grenade launchers for protection. They have qualified immunity to protect them from their own actions. And in some states police have a Police Bill of Rights for protection.

Holding a cop accountable is nearly impossible because of all the "protections" we give them.

Now...Kentucky is saying police need protection from...words???

It means reducing the workload of police and their exposure to possibly dangerous situations they're not trained to deal with. And with fewer civil actions against police departments we could afford better training and pay, as well.

According to Goebbels, very much so. According to Hitler, not really (he wasn't really good with kids, I don't know about dogs).

Hopefully this song doesn't become criminalized.

This bill is a blatant attempt to stifle protests. Interesting that they are trying to rush this through during the Derek Chauvin trial.
