I think its a great idea. I think I still have a Book Of Mormon somewhere on my bookshelves.

I'm a UU with Liberal Christian leanings.

Two books that I can't recommend highly enough are :
If Grace is True : Why God Will Save Every Person
If God Is Love: Rediscovering Grace In An Ungracious World.

Both books deal with the concept of universal salvation (universalism). They were written by Phillip Gulley and James Mullholland. The first deals with the basic concept that everyone is saved. The second book deals with how that concept can transform how we deal with others we encounter day to day.

I'll start reading the Book of Mormon as soon as I can. Are there any good guides available that could help me understand it a little better as I'm reading it.

I always enjoy learning about other faith traditions (especially American variants on Christianity).

What could help you out? Hmm..other then pure LDS study guides to help the students, I can't think of any. You can ask us here at RF. :D

Oh by the way -- anyone who wants a free BOM -- just PM me. Or if you'd like to do a book exchange, whatever works. Give me time though, I have a lot of books to read!! :D

Did you ever read the book of Urantia Beck?:)
And what's your view on Buddhism?

Haven't read Urantia , but I have a very favorable view on Buddhism and Taoism actually.

I own the Tao de Ching and a couple of others (The Iron Flute - a book of Zen Koans, Living Christ, Living Buddha and Anger -- the latter two written by Thact Nahn Hahn).

But alas, I haven't read any of them yet!

That's the one that I should of recommended to Becky, I am currently reading it now and there is a link to the whole book on the internet. So Becky, when are you going to find the time to read all these books and discuss them? Are you taking them in order as you receive them are in the order of this thread? Are you going to discuss them in this thread or start new threads?

I have four months off -- no school, only work.

That's when I'm going to read everything. Starting with the first one someone posted, until the last. :D

This is a spinoff from Katz's wildly successful thread "I'll go to yours if you'll go to mine"

Instead, this will be a "I'll read yours, if you'll read mine."

I'm offering to read ANY religious, humanist, secular text.

As long as it is not pornographic or erotic or abusive in anyway.

I'll read any books by early Church farthers, any Pagan writings, Buddhist teachings, etc.

All I ask is that you try to read the Book of Mormon and if you don't have one, I can get you one for free -- no strings attached.

This way we can all be able to discuss and talk and enjoy.

Anybody willing to take me up on this offer?

I've read the Book of Mormon. Any chance you can get hold of the Philokalia? It's huge (four or five volumes) so I wouldn't expect you to read all of it but I could point out a few suggested readings (it's basically a collection of the writings of the Fathers).

I dunno - I'm in a 80-90% LDS town. I could go ask the Catholic Church in town -- Saint Patricks.

Not sure that you'll find the Philokalia in an RC church. It was compiled by the Greeks long after the Schism (though most of the writings are by Fathers we both share). I can suggest other, shorter, books if you like. Here's a classic of Orthodox theology that you can find online if you're interested:

http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/history/ath-inc.htm

It's On the Incarnation by St. Athanasius.
