Why, as materialists, both of you wish for ‘knowledge’ or ‘wisdom’ ? If matter is all there is, why should one wish for wisdom? If material arrangements and interactions engender all our mental-phenomenal qualities, why do we wish for a created effect?

The short answer is, I don't know. You asked earlier about whether I like to be delighted from time to time. The answer is yes, and I do what I like to do, within reason of course. I have an inquisitive nature and I enjoy learning about the world around me ("knowledge").

I don't claim to know why I'm here in this place or that the material is all there is. But as long as I'm here, I might as well do something.
