because they were considered "wicked people"...it wasn't specifically homosexuality that caused Sedom's destruction...in fact i can't recall HaShem punishing that city for sexual immorality anyways...

Ya,daยด is a Hebrew verb which is commonly translated as "know." Its meaning is ambiguous. It appears 943 times elsewhere in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). Usually it means "to know a fact." In only about a dozen of these cases does it refers to sexual activity; in these instances, the sexual meaning is always obvious. The text generally talks about a man "knowing" a woman and of her conceiving a child as a result of the "knowing." All such references involve heterosexual relationships.

It is not clear whether the mob wanted to:

[IMG]Gang rape the angels. This was a common technique by which men, particularly enemies, were humiliated in that society. [IMG]Engage in consensual homosexual sex with the angels: This is the interpretation of the NIV translators. They wrote very clearly that the intent was to "have sex with them." [IMG]Interrogate them. They may have been concerned that the strangers were spies who were sent to the city to determine its defensive fortifications. "Sodom was a tiny fortress in the barren wasteland south of the Dead Sea. The only strangers that the people of Sodom ever saw were enemy tribes who wanted to destroy and take over their valuable fortress and the trade routes that it protected." As noted above, the city had just recently survived just such an attack, and may have been on high alert. 5 [IMG]Attack them physically.

I hope I'm right here, because I'm no scholar, but here goes :-
"HaShem" - (both and neither masculine nor feminine and absolutely no plural); the word means, literally, "The Name," and it is the way that Jews refer to G-d when not in a Prayer or Torah Reading or Torah citation context. The reason is that the Torah forbids us from pronouncing the four-letter Name of HaShem in other than ritual contexts, and even then using only certain Names (other than the four-letter one, known as the Tetragrammaton) that embody characteristics, such as A-donai, E-l, E-lohim.:)

Who is HaShem???

HaShem is the G-d of Abraham, Issac and Jacob...the G-d of the Jews...who brought them out of the land of Egypt and all the rest of that woo ha....
it is hebrew for "The Name" which refers to the tetragramiton, (man i don't think i spelled that right) the unspeakable and unpronouncable name of G-d, YHVH

Actually, I always thought (because I read it somewhere), that even that wasn't the full name, because they didn't even want to right it, so they took out the vowels.

It could be "Yahovah", "Yohovo", "Yihivi", etc.

Was I wrong in my perception?

well there are no vowels indicated in The Name so that might be what u mean druidus

actually some Kabbalah sources say that the Torah is just one big name of G-d

I dunno. Maybe he thought it'd be fun to play with the volcano he conveniently placed nearby and forgot there was a city there? ;)

What I find funny is that God said he wouldn't destroy the city if he found ten righteous people in it, but then he goes ahead and destroys it. We even hear the cries of children. I guess they weren't very righteous. ;)

Meanwhile, Lot's wife turns around and is destroyed for looking back, Lot's daughters get him drunk and rape him to bear children. But that was a damn righteous family! ;)

lol @ Druidus...seems so don't it...

Well the problem was HaShem couldn't find 10 righteous people, just Lot
Lot's wife...well...all i can say is if i was her i wouldn't have looked back i'd have been running for my life!

and his daughters...well you know what they say about "keeping it all in the family" lol
j/k actually they thought they were the last remains of the Human race and felt the need to perpetuate it.

regardless i see your point Druidus

EZE 16:49 " 'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

This is the sin of Sodom

How do you know 'strange flesh' doesn't refer to 'unclean' animals?

Did I say or suggest what the words strange flesh mean? It could mean homosexual flesh, it could mean animals, I have heard it said it refers to them wanting to have intercourse with the angels as well.

Sorry Mr. Emu, I didn't mean to jump on you. This issue is (for obvious reasons) a touchy one with me.

Actually "strange flesh" in Greek is sarkos eteros or 'Heteros Sarkos' if you put the breathings in.

It's always homosexuality presented as the sin...never the fact that, according to the interpretation used in this case, these guys apparently rape strangers.

And as long as we're talking about abominations, male homosexuality is right up there with eating shellfish, as I recall. Isn't perspective fun?

don't forget wearing poly-cotton blend cloths. ;)

Honestly if God was so up in arms about Homosexuality, he should have been smiting more than Sodam and Gomorahh. Athens and Rome never got smote. (or as a good friend of mine prefers "Smut")
