"I trust in Jesus for my salvation"

e.r.m.

Church of Christ
I want to break down that phrase.

Often times there is the popular meaning and the literal meaning, like "go break a leg".

The popular meaning of "I trust in Jesus for my salvation" means "As soon as I place my trust that Jesus is from God and he was sent to die for me, I am saved."

The literal meaning of "I trust in Jesus for my salvation" is "Jesus calls the shots. Whatever he says about getting saved, I will believe."

An example of this is
Mark 10:17, 21 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” [21] Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

But the wealthy man did not trust Jesus for his salvation. He didn't trust, being the key word.

An example of those who did trust in Jesus for their salvation
John 6:67-69 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. [68] Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. [69] We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

They stayed and believed his words, and followed them.

They didn't just say, "Jesus is here to save me, yeah I believe that."
It was his words/his teachings, not just his presence that had life.

That being said,
Acts 16:31-32 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved---you and your household.” [32] Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.

Did the jailor have anyone to believe in until Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him?

Romans 10:14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

A person must at least know Jesus a little bit and trust in whatever Jesus says about salvation in order for the statement " I trust in Jesus for my salvation" to be true.

When people say "I trust in Jesus alone for my salvation", I ask, "What about Jesus do you trust?"
So far, no one has answered that question. I believe it's because that phrase has been drilled into them and it has no meaning.

A person who has a mature understanding of Jesus, what Jesus is about, and what he taught, can genuinely trust whatever He says about getting saved, no one else.

Luke 14:27-30 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. [28] “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? [29] For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, [30] saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

The floor is open, thank you.

"As soon as I place my trust that Jesus is from God and he was sent to die for me, I am saved."

Are you sure that's all you have to do? Yes...salvation is a 'free gift'; however, one has to do something to receive that free gift. If I were to give you a free $100.00 bill. You'd still have to reach out and take it. There is a thing called the Plan of Salvation that we all must do...besides just "placing our trust" in Jesus. Comment?

I agree with what you're saying. The problem is people believe that trusting in Jesus for their salvation involves no action, and is some unspecific and mere acknowledgement of the cross. As we can see with the rich young man, trusting in Jesus goes beyond that, it actually involves trust.

People always ask that saved from what? It should be save to what, shouldn't it? Psalm 23 "he leads me" verse 3.

Good one.

Btw, I'm Rejoran. It was a temporary account that I shouldn't have opened while they resolved this one.

Ah, so there is really nothing to be saved from?

On this world there is. But I do not know what you are asking.

I believe that when the Bible speaks of being saved it means to be delivered, like a package. We can help people along the way to the place where they are going. Psalm 23 The supreme helper imo is Yehoshua Messiah. I believe he knows the way. We do not. A frubal for talking to me :D

It involves many things a mortal must do on their part to enter Gods kingdom. The bottom line is this--- Matt 7:21-- Those who do the will of my Father in heaven will enter his Kingdom---- there is a bible full of Gods will. Not just believing.
