I used to be an Atheist

I was quite happy as an Atheist and I think I was quite good at being one

I then came to believe in God because I thought God was talking to me

And because of this, I eventually blundered into Christianity

Later on, I realised that God was not talking to me - that I was mistaken about this

But for numerous years after this I maintained a belief in God and carried on as a Christian

I think that now might be the chance to challenge this belief

I need to either find good reasons to believe or abandon my belief entirley

In the meantime I'm going to call myself an Agnostic

    There's no hurry

Maybe I will become an Atheist again?

    I don't know :D

The thing is though, I have let go of the original reason that caused me to believe in God

I just simply live life as it presents itself on its own terms.

I find there is really no reason to put a god concept into all that, and muddy up whats perfectly natural without all the need for the imaginative whistles and bells.

I believe God gives mankind the right to believe or not believe in anything and everything even though truth doesn't change.

God was never offended by investigative questioning.

Maybe you aren't asking the right questions?

Best of luck - here's something you may not have expected?

Why not give up all labels completely?

Sounds radical I know and may not be right for you at this stage of your evolution.

    Here's a quote about such matters/decisions/situations -

Bets of luck whatever you decide.

    Cheers!

Ever hear of Christian Atheism, where one embraces the teachings of Jesus without the theistic component?

Would it be useful to take theism out of the equation entirely and see how well aligned you are with Christianity otherwise?

I used to see this guy at London's Hyde park where he regularly spoke.

Interesting, did a search and found a little more. One of his signs says "for those who know their faith is a human creation but still love and practise it".

Choice never really plays into the matter of being an atheist. I'm atheist against my will, but I can't help but see through observing the natural world that there is overwhelming evidence that God doesn't exist. Whatever, and whomever created us is far less than a God. There's very little harmony in nature. Children die of cancer very young. On and on. Nobody's at the helm.

I totally agree with that Krishnamurti quote. False divisions of people are very bad indeed.

Christians can say exactly the same thing, of course.

You're lucky to read it - I had only vague recollections of the key words and found it after a few dud searches ...

    Cheers!

I don't expect anybody to accept on pure faith the notion of there being a simulator ( a.k.a. - God )
Computer codes found in string theory might be an objective indicator of our simulated universe controlled by a simulator ( a.k.a. - God )

Please note the discovery of error correcting codes within the equations of symmetry is a rigorously proven theorem.

Is theoretical physicist James Gates’ intriguing discovery of error-correcting codes within the equations of supersymmetry accepted within the theoretical physicist community, and has it been corroborated by other physicists?

A.: The discovery is a rigorously proven theorem.

To be precise, the (error-detecting and error-correcting binary doubly-even linear block) codes were discovered/identified within the classification of worldline off-shell supermultiplets without central charge [On Graph-Theoretic Identifications of Adinkras, Supersymmetry Representations and Superfields, by C.F. Doran, M.G. Faux, S.J. Gates, Jr., T. Hübsch, K.M. Iga and G.D. Landweber: Int. J. Mod. Phys. A22 (2007) 869-930, arXiv:math-ph/0512016]. It was then proven that these (minimal) supermultiplets in turn encode the continuum of all possible worldline supermultiplets [On General Off-Shell Representations of Worldline (1D) Supersymmetry, by C.F. Doran, T. Hübsch, K.M. Iga and G.D. Landweber: Symmetry 6 no. 1, (2014) 67–88, arXiv:1310.3258]. See also my answer to “James Gates claims that he found code in string theory. Does that imply that we live in a simulation?”

If string theory proves to be a valid explanation for the fundamental constituents of the universe being one-dimensional “strings” rather than point-like particles, then the computer code found within string theory could be a real indication of us being simulated by God.

    How are you defining "agnostic?"
You might already be an atheist. ;)

You are an expression of the Universe, no more than a flower and no less than a star, so finding out what you are is the essential prerequisite before finding out who you are? But a name does not really define a human being, theist, atheist, gnostic, agnostic, believer, non-believer. Reality is what it is, not the thought about what it is. Cease all thought and reality will be present directly, no mental interpretation.

Easy is the path that leads to illusion, difficult is the path that leads to reality.
