The industries were costing the taxpayer money: the lower rate of income tax was 44% while the highest was 98% . They were running at a loss.
On top of the industries being loss makers, the unions were always on strike. The whole country had to ration electricity to 72 hours a week.
She saved the country.
We are still suffering from her saving us.
She did not reform industry she destroyed it altogether.
Your figures are way out...
She did not reduce taxation she just taxed us differently
"The Government of Margaret Thatcher, who favoured indirect taxation, reduced personal income tax rates during the 1980s. In the first budget after her election victory in 1979, the top rate was reduced from 83% to 60% and
the basic rate from 33% to 30%."
However the personal tax rate for the rich went down considerably. and was covered by selling off and privatisation of national companies and assets.
She though service industries like finance and city trading, could replace them. with out the benefit of the north sea oil and gas. her revenue deficit would have been greater still, even after she had sold off all the national assets.
