I Am A Christian!

I am a Christian:
Am I supposed to hate certain people?
Am I supposed to agree with slavery?
Am I supposed to believe the earth is flat and only 6,000 years old?
Am I supposed to judge people and tell them they are going to "hell"?
Am I supposed to throw stones at other faiths and such?

And since I do none of those things, does that mean I am a bad Christian?

According to a small minority of Christians, that you don't engage in those things do make you a bad Christian. According to me, however, that you don't engage in those things makes you a good Christian!

You are supposed to love your God and love your neighbour. Then, no matter what anybody else might think, you are a good Christian, at least according to Jesus.

According to anti-theists, it makes you an inconvenience best left ignored.

Bad Christian? No. A target for fundamentalists and some conservatives, perhaps, but not a bad Christian. A person who thinks and can actually reason things out is never a bad person, regardless of what religion they belong to.

No, it means you ask silly rhetorical questions.

A good Christian is someone who follows the teaching of Jesus. I don't remember jesus giving quizes on specific theology or geology but he certainly made it clear to treat everyone fairly and with respect.

I've been a bad christian for a long time for not agreeing with the trinity and being gnostic etc.

Live, love, and stand for your beliefs. To me, that's what you're doing, and I think that makes you a fine human being. I refuse to define what makes a "Christian" and what doesn't.

Of course you know the answer and are just asking rhetorically.

I think you are the majority of Christianity, moderate. The media and the atheists like to overpublicize anything the extremists of the far-right wing say. It feeds the atheist's intellectual superiority complex to hear the fundamentalist's spew.

It is really only partially a rhetorical question (it was mostly rhetorical, but I don't think it was silly). I keep seeing questions about Christians stating verses in the Bible talking about slavery or stoning, and that sort of things, or talking about the crusades, etc. as if Christians are supposed to act this way- I certainly know that they are not saying that Christians are supposed to act that way or even that they do now-- but it can be misconstrued (not by me, after all, I try and understand human nature, LOL).

And about the Law: Can a person in this day and age even be able to keep every law listed in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy? Is there anyone that does? (that's a rhetorical question, too).

What does that say about Paul who in Galatians said anyone who preached a doctrine different than him "be damned".

Paul was reshaping the Christian church in his image, of course he would damn any who disagreed with him. Especially those who were following Christ's doctrines.

Absolutely! I read so much waffle from christians which is totally nothing to do with Jesus, his teachings or his example. When I think about Jesus I tend to block out, or ignore John's books and Paul's letters (I mistrust both) and just stick to Matthew, Mark and Luke....... Matthew being the best and earliest account of Jesus's ministry. He was the great prophet of love, in my opinion.
