twice I have listened to a well done speech

Out of Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World I believe the latter to be the most bleak and dystopian

I would rather live in Orwell's 1984 world than in Huxley's Brave New World

But I'd hope to be a member of the "inner party" :D

but more to topic....
if you can see the scenarios unfolding around you

which way do you lean? (anyone)
and what can you do?
or have you already taken steps either way?

I see people all around me transfixed on their smart phones
as if they cannot take a step forward without stroking the screen
can't eat a meal without the continual input

a) 1984: Big Brother is watching you ... implemented already quite a bit
b) Animal Farm: All animals are equal, some are more equal ... implemented too much already
...(in several Countries: gay people are less equal to put it mildly)
...(in Holland: flights only for those with health certificate and having vaccination shots)
...(in Holland: hospitalized only for the young and the nurses; those working in hospitals; I didn't read about reduction health insurance fee for others)
(And those 2 were just pushed last month, imagine what else will come in the next year)
c) Brave New World:
...7.5 billion people staying in their houses without any problem ... implemented too
...7.5 billion people willingly taking their vaccine shots soon ... to be implemented soon ("Gates" volente)
...7.5 billion people willing (or forced) to have a chip implanted .... tested already in Sweden

I fear that if we don't find an appropriate form of collectivism then we will become extinct as a species - either through internal strife (between nations, factions, whatever) or from not being able to deal with external threats or any internal ones where we just cannot agree on appropriate actions - Climate Change being a typical example at the moment but there are obviously many more.

have a chip implanted
have seen a report coming out from a company source
(name forgotten)
seems the employees LIKE the idea
omg
the door and the vending machines are linked

I bet banks and money lenders will too

missed your car payment?
the door won't open

no job?
the grocery store door won't open
one store already has cameras EVERYWHERE
you are scanned
your card on the way in says you will pay
no one is needed for your checkout
you just grab and go
they know what you took

it's already showing at the gas pump
if you pay in cash.....go inside and pay
BEFORE you get the pump turned
the card in your hand works faster...…..if it works

but at some point....the collective will over ride the individual
too far

if your voice is squelched by the consensus
how then to change what you see?

The good part might be if criminals are chipped
We know from the smartphone they can pinpoint all down to the meter
And they can also self-destruct the phone
These options have been thoroughly tested, so will be implemented

And we have our pets already chipped in Holland; works fine too

So, for sure it will work miracles
But not my choice of living

saw a report by a man who was all about alternative energy sources
he spent himself and his efforts trying to get things to go renewable

and then.....he did an about face
and his speech for the change proved informative

we should go nuclear
his speech was convincing

Both are occurring and will occur. What you have is thesis, antithesis and the resulting compromise between the two is synthesis. The one thing both systems have in common you've already pointed out. A complete lack of liberty.

Examples of modern Orwellian societies are China and North Korea.
Huxley's societies are western countries for now as they dumb everyone down on pharmaceuticals and deplete and wear away our sense of decency and morality with media and public school system.

The coming tyranny is most likely going to be technocracy controlled by an AI "god". Yes, AI is already here and some insiders are saying that AI is already in control of everything and they are continuing human government by politicians only as a puppet show because you aren't ready for the truth yet.

But not my choice of living
and so for your pet.....who might need help from those of greater 'choice' ability
sure

and for those humans who have made bad choices
maybe ….ok

and I feel the same as you.....it's not my preferred …...choice

What is more important - the survival of the species or of individuals?

Another thread regarding the formation of morality interests me but I can't really contribute. From what I understand (forgetting any religious input), morality evolved to support the survival of the group - that is, those moral behaviours that did threaten the group were likely to be banned and those that promoted the welfare of the group as a whole were adopted. I see the same for humanity as a whole but obviously it has got rather more complicated, but I still think morality as such should be that which tends to increase our chances of survival (as a species). We will look right idiots if we fail on this score - that is, just having a narrow focus rather than looking at the bigger picture. And I doubt we can do such without some form of collectivism.
