Humility Defined.

Assalam alaikum,
When someone asked a Sufi about humility, he answered, "Humility is when the heart stands before God-Praise be to Him-with total concentration." One of the signs of humility in the servant of God is that when he is prompted to anger, contradicted or angered, he accepts all that [with equanimity].

Another Sufi said: "Humility of the heart is to restrain your eyes from looking". When asked about humility, al-Junaid answered: "It is the abasement of your heart before the One Who knows that which is hidden."

I was reading something about Sufism recently, and the quote was talking about ''risking everything that one is and has for truth.'' And eventually...we become the truth in how we live our lives. Islam (and religion) in general, should be more than a mere set of policies, rules, obligations. It should be an extension of our true selves. It went on to say that following Islam and living Islam, are two different things.

Thank you for posting this. :)
