How true is this statement and how does it pertain to religion and science

Society is like a herd of cattle, they never know where they are going or where they have been. They are just wadding through bullpoo and starring at the but in front of them.

Not true at all. Humans have a much broader capability for perception than that, largely thanks to science and largely with no thanks to religion.

So you don't think society in general just accepts what they are told through media, religion, and science? You think that people tend to research information they are given before regurgitating that information to others in society? You said no thanks to religion but yet aren't there multiple religions because each was created to explain existence and when a person wasn't willing to accept the explanation of one religion they at that point created another? Wouldn't that be the opposite of conformity?

No, I don't. I think most people are more discerning than that, in my experience.

We assess the truth value of a claim in a multitude of ways - we don't necesarrilly have to research every claim extensively in oder to assess how likely something is to be true.

No, it isn't, because religion is predicated on the idea of doctrine and basically just believing what you believe because you want to believe it. It's not the result of rational reasoning or objective assessment of the world - it's the result of upbringing, indoctrination or delusion.
