    A friend and I are planning to have a drinking evening soon for a celebration, and I don't want to drink straight Black Label. I'm interested to hear recommendations on how to best enjoy it without drinking it straight--for example, the ideal pace of drinking, what to mix it with, etc.

    All tips appreciated!

    It's Johnnie Walker Black Label. I guess I should have clarified in the OP. :p

    I prefer to mix it with sweet tea.
    Or Coke in a pinch.

    Though I did find (after been drinking for a bit and running out of sweet tea) that Jim Beam Red Stag goes really well with black cherry Kool-Aid.

    One doesn't "drink" it.
    One sips it slowly (IMO)....straight...neat....room temp.

    If I wasn't having it neat, that would be my choice, too.

    @Debater Slayer - other options:

    - cola (if you want something simple that you can sip on)
    - an old fashioned made with scotch (if you want to be fancy)
    - a Rob Roy (if you have and like vermouth)

    The best way to enjoy Black Label is to sell it and get some pure malt instead.

    A celebration? So why aren't you drinking a good single malt rather than that mass marketed blend? A good whisky is drunk with just a small splash of water. If one is adding something like coke it isn't a good whisky, or if it is you're ruining it and hiding all the complex flavours. You are basically drinking alcoholic coke. If you're just drinking to get drunk this is of course all irrelevant. "Pace of drinking" makes me concerned it will not end well, but that's probably just me, quality rather than quantity - two glasses at most.

    I usually drink malts rather than blended whisky, but one drink I really like as a digestif is a rusty nail: mix Scotch with Drambuie. Not having a very sweet tooth I prefer 2 parts whisky and one of Drambuie. Should be on the rocks, I think.

    I usually drink bourbon instead of scotch. When I do drink scotch, it tends to be heavily peated, although I also like Balvenie and some Japanese offerings (which are scotch in all but name).

    Any good whisk(e)y, I will drink neat and sip. To mix the good stuff almost seems criminal: you miss the whole experience.

    For mixing, I'll use a cheaper bourbon, in which case, I'll put it into a ginger tea for a hot toddy. Alternatively, mixing with ginger ale gives a nice, light drink. But I haven't tried either of those with scotch.

    The man who started it all in Japan, if I recall correctly, was inspired by visiting Scotland. Today they produce some of the best whisky in the world. I had a bottle of Yamazaki 12yo which I eked out for about a year. It is exquisite, but the price is eye-watering.
