How many people here live outside the left-right paradigm?

I am a moderate, almost a libertarian, but I believe in some social programs. I am wondering how many people here are either moderate, minarchist, or anarchist, rejecting liberal and conservative collectivist (in my opinion) thought. Anyone is welcome in this discussion.

Each of those still falls into the spectrum in question.

I consider myself to be a centrist, but from the 1970’s and 1980’s. Therefore by today’s standards this makes me a left-wing “moonbat” liberal.

But fact-based reality is still centrist to me.

I'm not sure that you can be outside the spectrum. Anarchists are certainly on the spectrum, as well. Just to the realllllllllllllly far ends.

I'm not a very political person, but if I had to take a label, it would be anarchist.

Not in the punk rock, "detroy everything" kind of way, but in the kind of way where if we all just took the responsibility of taking care of each other and acting out of love instead of selfishness, we wouldn't need a government to keep us in line.

I'm a pragmatist. I want to know what will actually solve a problem without creating new problems. And I try to be fact based.

So as long as greed and similar motivations are held by the majority, we need systems to check-and-balance such lower motivations. That leads me to want to see government, business and labor with a balance of power between them.

That leads me to typically favor a liberal position rather than a conservative one and to feel that government is neither the problem nor the automatic solution. Rather I see government as a necessary part and a strong part of how we're organized.

When humans are motivated by higher impulses and automatically live in a different way, then the need for the current balance would be replaced by people's internal motivations. I would then automatically become a libertarian because people would be acting differently and current problems would fade away. That day is not here yet although I see very early signs that it's just starting to develop.

    I hear ya.
I think of myself as a centrist, even in a somewhat modern fashion, but then I talk to Americans and realise I'd be categorised as Left there.

Already done. Nirvana did it many times in the 90's. Metaphorically speaking of course.

I sit on top of the left & the right.
So I share some views with either, & some with neither.

I came up with a great band name the other day from a Colorado friend's Facebook post: The Rutting Bucks.

And even though it's not specifically "Kum Ba Yah," Screeching Weasel did a pretty good job of the same sort of thing...

To some degree the left vs right paradigm is very muddy in the middle. There are indeed the extremes to moderates that are clearly right and left, but the middle is indeed muddy.

For me, it depends on the issue whether I am liberal or conservative.

Im disapointed in the human race that we even need government to put peoples evils in check. The fact we need laws shows in and of itself that we have taken a wrong turn a long time ago. Where did we go wrong? Why cant people just do right BECAUSE ITS RIGHT?
