None, almost joined the Air Force to finish my pilots license. But decided against it. Kinda wish I had, but meh it's just one of those things you live and learn.

After reading the heavily lopsided poll results in Are Veterans Better Than The Rest Of Us?, I'm wondering what our demographic is with regard to those who have served.

Who among you is a veteran?

I served in the USN from 2007-2016 (just shy of 10 years), as a Fire Controlman (weapons electronics repair/operation). Did 4 years aboard a Destroyer stationed out of Japan; and 2 years on a destroyer out of WA state. Deployed to the Persian Gulf in 2013. Last portion of my time was spent mentoring new sailors as they learned their initial schooling.

I served with the 187th infantry regiment in Fort Campbell Kentucky.

No combat. 1st Iraq war broke out shortly after I was honorably discharged .

Personally I only consider those who face combat true veterans. I'm only an ex- soldier that had served.

Here's an odd one for you....
I once worked with an ex-Green Beret.
The only times he was shot were when he was home in Baltimore MD.

I'll start.

I served in the USAF from 1983 to 1987 as a munitions systems specialist.

To answer the OP never been in the military but I have a military family

Dad (Army)

Twin male cousins on my dad side (Marines)

Female cousin on my dad side (Navy)

My first uncle on my mother side (Navy he actually was a frogman)

My second uncle on my mother side (Navy)

My personal philosophy before when Marines recruited me in high school was black man shouldn't serve in the military for a country that doesn't see them as completely human. I still in part feel that way but mostly I'd join today simply for the benefits and not for some patriotic sense of duty.

Hope you can start up again if you have that desire.

Thanks I appreciate the support!

Wish I could but flight time was too expensive for me even back then, I can imagine it's even more expensive now. (Back then flight time was $1,000 per hour)
