After reading the heavily lopsided poll results in Are Veterans Better Than The Rest Of Us?, I'm wondering what our demographic is with regard to those who have served.

Who among you is a veteran?

    I'll start.

I served in the USAF from 1983 to 1987 as a munitions systems specialist.

Nope I was rejected by the Norwegian Military because I am a pacifist (by the military standard for what a pacifist is)

Never did. And tbh, 98% of the reason is that I didn't see any upside to being shot at.

I finally figured out what direction I should go, when I studied the revelations of the Baha'i faith
I didn't really have the opportunity given some struggles in my life at about the age I probably should've joined at.

The year when I was supposed to serve the homeland they lifted the compulsory military service through a law.

    They did it on purpose!:p
To prevent me from living in a military base with high walls full of male specimens who cannot run away ....:yum:

Ironically, I spent most of my miltary-age years carrying a backpack, sleeping on the ground, being shot at at least once (not counting the times they didn't pull the trigger), and dealing with a fairly constant supply of threats, so in retrospect I don't feel like too much of a whimp (although I have to admit it I knew all that was coming I probably never would have stuck out my thumb to begin with :D).

And that was just on RF!

(Just kidding - thought it was a joke you might enjoy.)

I served in the U.S. Navy from May 1967 until February 1971. (Honorably discharged three months early under a military force reduction program in effect at the time.)
During my tour, I never served on a ship; active shore duty the whole time.
From December 1968 until December 1969, I served in Vietnam, stationed at the U.S. Naval Command Headquarters in Saigon, which was in "the combat zone".

Greatest risks faced: Bar girls and drunk soldiers looking for a fight.

Unless the Salvation army counts, it was all civillian, and all here in the US, not counting a few quick trips to Mexico and back.

    "Lopsided" sounds so bad.
But I say the results (vets = non-vets being the winner) are good.

I never served in the military.
But I served the military in the weapons industry.
I believe in defense, but not the draft.

Not sure what you mean by war time? Would Grenada count. 1983?

    A design engineer.

    There's an old joke....
What's the difference between a mechanical engineer & a civil engineer?
The former makes weapons. The latter makes targets.
I worked on F-18 flight controls & an aerial refueling system.

Active duty in a combat zone during an invasion, no? That's at least two/thirds of the criteria. Unless you were a tourist caught up in the excitement of events.

It did once upon a time, and I initially selected during wartime, but it would appear in a Google search that while we we conducting military action overseas, it’s no longer considered wartime.
