Also, "Many Mansions" is the name of the biography of Edgar Cayce by Gina Cerminara, and it makes a good read.

I assume you are asking from the Christian perspective, so I'm not sure if there is any scripture pertaining to 'levels' of heaven or hell. If you know any I'd be happy to read them and tell you what I think.

As far as the second question, Jesus appears to be reassuring his disciples about their place in heaven for pretty much all of chapter fourteen. Thus, the 'many mansions' statement is very likely to mean nothing more detailed than 'a place for each of you to live'. He is basically saying, "If there were a limited number of spots I would have said that a long time ago. All you have to do is, blah, blah, blah..."

    I'm paraphrasing, of course.

Anyway, that's how I read it. It doesn't seem to suggest much about 'levels', so I'm not sure if they were supposed to be related.

My first husband claimed he could travel into the 12th level of hell and command archdemons and whatnot, but then...he was kind of certifiable. :p

What a lunatic. There are no archdemons in the 12th level of hell.

Oh...only a little. :p He claimed he was inhabited by a demon that once use to possess Nostradamus. Yep...he was a winner that ex of mine. Completely loopers. I think he really created one heck of an alter. There were really at least two distinct personalities, names and all.

Don't know about heaven, but Dante describes the nine circles (levels) of hell in his poem Divine Comedy.

    Tree levels of heaven
Paradise, which is probably first level of escape
Second, which I can't find any mention of in KV bible
Third, where Christ sits on throne. Since a first and third exist there should be a second

Hell, full of fire and brimstone
Two judgements on household of God with many variations in between. Most would consider these hell on first glance but actually aren't.

In the Divine Comedy, Dante describes nine levels for each of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise (and for the record, that God-of-War knockoff game has little to do with the poem.)

I think Aristotle described six levels of Hell, upon which Dante based his levels and added a few others. Ptolemy described the levels of Heaven as:

    Moon
    Mercury
    Venus
    Sun
    Mars
    Jupiter
    Saturn
    Fixed Stars

Giving us eight levels of Heaven.

The Lokas of Hinduism have already been mentioned.
