How do Muslims understand the prophet Hosea?

He is not mentioned in Quran. Perhaps he is part of the 24.000 prophets.

24.000 prophets/messengers came from all world, not just Israelites.

However Joshua is mentioned without name. He is described as man with strong faith in Allah.

I read a brief about him and his book. The book contains metaphors to summarize the relationship between Almighty and Israelis.
If this summary and treatment of the metaphors are correct.
It's said that Allah loved Isreils and then he's not happy from them especially the norther kingdom, then punishment by destruction of kingdoms

If this is correct, It's compliant with story of Israels in Quran.
But no mention in Quran about Hosea and his book.
