How can someone be a male and be a feminist at the same time?

I'm a radical feminist, well yes have you seen my signature ;) Go on tumblr mate you will find many more radscum blogs on there.
I did not connect your signature. I have never heard of Dworkin. Honest. I've never heard of tumblr.

I have weaknesses too I wear a bit of makeup about 3 times a year. I could be even more radical and never wear any ;)
I shave every other day. I flatten my hair down every other day. I spray smelly stuff on because Mrs B prefers it to grotty-armpit. Is that different?

Oh! I tell you what.... Mrs B wears makeup when going out, or to work. Well, I think she looks younger and better without it. That's the truth. She knows she doesn't have to do that for me.

Joking aside though, I think the most unfeminist and the most feminist of us would submit to certain things when faced with male dominance. I've often been nice to men I would rather not be nice to just because of fear on how they might react if I told them to F off and die.
What sort of male dominance? A boss at work? A customer? I can't think of a person you should be frightened of......... apart from you walking through the railway arches at night and some big b-gger approaches you, talking b-llocks. I would use the same tactics as you, probably...... pleasant responses until clear. Is this a work thing?

Yeah I tend to straight up say radical feminists things. I straight up said on my Facebook not long ago that I think high heels are a modern form of foot binding.
Say something radical to me. I won't be offended. I'm just interested to see what kind of subject you'd bring up. I bet I've brought up more radical stuff on this site than you...... bet you a frubal!

I said to a couple of my work colleagues that I admire Dworkin, some people hate her but I think she was needed. she thought pornography was hate speech against women and my female work colleague said "well it kind of is."
I admit I was surprised I expected to get "it's only sex" or something like that.
I need to be honest..... I never heard of Dworkin. The thing about pornography is that men and women take part in it. Do you consider the women to be treacherous in their participation, or victims? Let's leave minors out of this for now, ok?

I'm really disappointed that you make such an effort. You could at least use the brand of deodorant I do. It's like lynx except it's actually a man repellent called 'feminoman'

Oh! I tell you what.... Mrs B wears makeup when going out, or to work. Well, I think she looks younger and better without it. That's the truth. She knows she doesn't have to do that for me.

I was actually messing around about the make up thing

Mostly strange men trying to talk to me. Due to some bad experiences I think a lot of women experience.

I identify as radical mostly because of my views on the sex industry. And I generally oppose the "if you like it, let it be" philosophy that I find with liberal feminism.

I believe there are "Madame Schreck" type women out there (you probably won't get that unless you read Angela Carter.)

I also believe all women are victims of male dominance under patriarchy in some form or the other.

Did you read Sunstones thread on pornography? I mentioned an interview I watched with a porn actress (I'm tired right now and can't remember her name, or should I say porn name) it's was very insightful and she was very honest which I respect. She was from a poor background-a runaway, became a child prostitute, then stripper, then got into the porn industry. Now she said most women in porn are victims of child sexual abuse and that rape victims are built for porn they can take it. She wouldn't want her own children to do porn and doesn't understand why her own children would want to because they have had and I quote "normal childhoods."
She also said she's witnessed, young porn actresses being coerced to do scenes that they didn't originally agree to or want to do.

Now what she said in my opinion is not far off from what a radical would say, well minus rape victims being built for porn. Except it is from a porn star. Take that as you will.

Hi....! Just caught this before it fell off the pages.
No...... didn't get the Madame Schreck bit.....

Ok...... Trying to apply the above to my own life, and wondering what dominates me, and what dominates my wife, we are both dominated by nature, then by government, then by laws and taxes and rules. I am dominated (influenced heavily) by a neverending concern for my wife, her happiness and security etc, and she tells me that I could reverse the above, more or less, for her. All people are dominated by nature, down thru government on down, etc... There will be 'dominated women', or 'Women's Aid' would not exist, run by very tough women, giving sanctuary to female fugitives.

I'm sure that coercian and contract breaking occurs. I just don't know about the rest. What about the females who post their own pics on the internet? A bloke I know used to go on-line and women would stri for him on their cameras?

I take it as read....

Men don't give two craps about female fashion - unless there's boobs. Most of this alleged oppression women trot through is the fault of their own gender. If you ask the average male his opinion about a woman who doesn't like heels and doesn't clean-shave her legs every day, he'd shrug. A fellow woman would say, 'eww.'

This is a pretty broad generalization, and (in my opinion) an inaccurate one at that.

How many times have you heard males commenting about a woman's clothing choices and criticizing those who don't dress a certain way? Or mocking a woman's clothing because it makes her look "fat," for example?

And no, just because some women perpetuate this kind of sexism by being judgmental doesn't mean that it's only women's fault. Many males do the same thing when women don't dress as they expect or want them to, even though it's not their business to begin with in many cases.

When it comes to appearance, I'd say there is oppression of females in general to dress a certain way not to be mocked or ridiculed by others, including males who do comment on women's fashion more than just when "there's boobs."

Almost. I totally agree that the average heterosexual male doesn't care nearly as much about a woman's appearance as many women assume. But the fashion industry I don't think is the fault of women alone. There are many more complex forces at play.

It's a cultural thing, too. What straight men think is attractive varies from culture to culture. In the U.S., I've yet to meet a man who thinks a woman with hairy armpits is attractive, but straight men from other countries have mentioned to me that a woman who shaves her body hair is considered a strange lot.

A woman I once dated didn't shave under her arms. I didn't care, but I knew other men and women who cared about that as a signifier of grooming and beauty standards. They would see her with me, and ooh and aaah at how gorgeous she was until she wore a sleeveless top and lifted her arms. Next thing you know they'd all turn their nose up at her like she was quasimoto. Sad.

OK..... I underlined ^^^^. Now we have plenty of sexists and racists within both genders. But it's much much worse than that. I could pick 50 other examples. Oh yes. I might make 100...... some related to gender, others more general. I try to see as many as possible.

Of course.. a sexist can be of sex. A racist can be of any race. Generally, anyone who says some gender or race shouldn't have the same civic rights as others, is going to labeled a sexist or a racist.

Let me just pick on one hidden example of 'wrongness' which survives unseen by most, and which a (proper) egalitarian would want to address. I know this one well.

It's only the nature of monetary systems where scarcity dictates prices, and everyone must scrounge for an uneven portion of the total production pool. People are going to find every last way to exploit money to their advantage.

You show, in that short piece, how deeply one can dive into a subject. I always have difficulty with 'heavily' complicated tenets, and do everything I can to simplify as much as possible, bringing enough to the surface for grasping. I would add to the above, that people have very very simple needs, wants, peer pressures, excitements, angers, naughtinesses and hopes (in any order). Complicated communism fell into pieces because of the above, driven by nasty powerful psychos like Stalin. Simple systems win. I don't think capitalism is anywhere near as complicated..

I guess I differ in that regards. My needs, wants, pressures, excitements, angers, naughtinesses and hopes are incredibly complex, I don't think I could even vocalize half those things about myself, cause they are things in which the mind isn't be to be wrapped around.

The fact is, the universe is complicated. Whether humans want simple or complex explanations, understandings, solutions, etc. is rather irrelevant to how the universe feels about it. I'd rather have a tedious, difficult, even boring, but accurate representation of something, than an easy, catch-phrase, exciting, and easy to understand, but incredibly misleading and inaccurate representation of something.

Communism and capitalism are incredibly complex. They are inevitably twined together, and people can and do, in fact, spend their whole lives trying to clarity on these issues. It's not we wish something to be simple and then, boom, it's miraculously easy to comprehend and barely takes up any of our time to ingest or understand.

Geniuses lived and died devoted to understanding these complexities so that we may have incredibly simple reference points, and all we've ever done way found one hundred questions for every answer.

Yes....... but natural egalitarianism can go very deep. Most of our schools don't seem to give a sh-t about physical bullying, and promote intellectual pride into a fault, etc. It p-ss-s me off when (eg) a Doctor insists that s/he is worth £110,000 per annum because s/he has special abilities, which in fact s/he was given by fluke of nature's fate, and insists that his/her house cleaner should only have the minimum wage because that person has no special talents.

Oh.... don't start me or I won't get to sleep!:D
Generally, the world is more classist than anything.. Or maybe just hateful of ugly people, I'm not sure which.

Hi.... again. Thanks for all your post. I reduced to simplify...... :D

OK..... so your needs are incredibly complex. That's cool. Question:- Generally speaking, would you say that you are a happy and contented person? Some level of fulfillment?

The fact is, the universe is complicated.
The mathematicians call it elegant, I think?
My brother in law was an analyst for IBM over 40 years ago. I once suggested to him how complex his job must have been. He said, 'Not at all. You're totally wrong. It's utter simplicity.'
It would appear that the most capable people find their worlds to be simple, and maybe that is why they look upon those outside their world as if children.
To me, everything of value seems to turn out to be simple, everything that is rubbish (or false) seems to be complicated.
Generally, the world is more classist than anything.. Or maybe just hateful of ugly people, I'm not sure which.
Are you classist? Would you found a club and insist on controlling who could join. Would you operate an exclusive world? Would you start a thread and insist that you would decide who could play or debate?

Mostly strange men trying to talk to me. Due to some bad experiences I think a lot of women experience.

Last night I asked my wife about male/female dominance, and we talked for so long that I never came back here.

But first, the above point.

Right. I AM NOT TRYING TO TEACH YOU TO SUCK EGGS. IF YOU ALREADY KNOW ALL THIS, GREAT! BUT IF YOU DON'T:-

Of course strange men (want to) talk to you. Yes. When I was 14-24, if you had sat down near me on train or bus, I probably would have been aware of you constantly. I would have snatched any opportunity to talk.
(Mostly) young men are so filled with bloody chemicals and drives that they are completely focused....... on you (and other females).
If this p-sses you off..... here's an idea...... read a good book about male courting gestures. Study...... men. The Australian, Alan Pease, knows his stuff. Next time a young man, cocky, claiming ownership of the area, goes into C-Gs, framing his crotch with his hands (thumbs in belt can do that), vibrating a knee to draw attention to his genitals, profiling his torso..... oh, the whole 'thing', you could have read up all about these natural instinctive gestures........ that males send subliminally. He has not spoken, but he is sending a subliminal message in nvg's and body language that if you are very very lucky, you could receive his dna. These same gestures are also warning signals to other males to stay clear. When men are squaring up to fight, most of their gestures are courting gestures!

Horrorble!!! Stop there! Now, are you feeling angry? My suggestion is, don't stand up and kick him in the nuts; this is not good. Most unhelpful. All sorts of difficulties there.
Better:- Look at this scene as you would if you were watching some species of bird displaying for a mate. Or a proud animal of some sort approaching a female. As soon as this young male is placed back into the anthropological arena, a naturalist could watch this whole spectacle with interest. 'Oh.... what a superb display..... when's he going to torso-profile?.... ahh, there he goes, not bad, for a kid.'....... reduces all to mere nothing....

Understanding males (people) can take away neg feelings, and replace them with an intellectual condition which helps one 'take more control'?? What d'ya think?

I will have to talk about porn later. :)eek:) Got things to do....
All the best.

I've only got questions......

What penalties or sentences should be imposed upon boyfriends who raped by going further than the girlfriend wanted?
What penalties should be imposed upon stranger rapists?
What penalties should be imposed upon intoxication or coma rapists?
What penalties should be imposed upon husband-wife rapists?
In connection with rape, are there any rape offences which should attract the death penalty?

If it could be, should all porn be criminalized by legislation?
If 'yes' to the above, what penalties or sentences for varying levels of porn should be imposed?
If criminalised, what penalties should be imposed upon men who are found in possesion?
If criminalised, what penalties should be imposed upon women who are found in possesion?
If criminalised, what penalties should be imposed upon men who take part in porn?

If it could be, should prostitution be banned?
If 'yes' to the above, what penalties should be imposed upon soliciting males?

Bearing in mind the above, should restrictions be placed upon people's clothing? Should people be banned from revealing too much of themselves in public places?
Bearing in mind the above, what level of clothing should be allowed (or banned) with regard to people's photographs in magazines and newspapers.
Bearing in mind the above, could topless males' pictures be shown in mags/papers?
Bearing in mind the above, could topless females'pictures be shown in mags/papers?

Should an age limit be imposed for the purchase of makeup?

If you could answer any of these questions, that would help me to understand the radical feminist viewpoint much better. And one other question, would you say that young men could be radical feminists with you, or only just feminists?

I talking about not taking no for an answer. I'm talking about following me around for 20mins harassing me for my number. I'm talking about following me into the same carriage just to stare me down. I'm talking about slyly trying to rub your fingers on the side of my leg then straight up putting you hand on my thigh. I don't see why there should be a difference in sentencing between a husband who rapes and a boyfriend or stranger. I guess there should be, if we are talking about repeated rapes from the husband and boyfriend and in a case of repeated torture I think a life sentence should definitely be a possibility. This would also prevent them from re marrying and doing it to someone else. I think life sentencing should be a possibility of repeated rape of a child also. I also think there should be a more severe sentence if pornography is made out of the rape.
No I don't believe there should be a death sentence. But I believe a person should have the right to kill their rapist in self defence. I also believe the same in domestic abuse, if a woman is being repeatedly battered and raped by her husband she shouldn't get a prison sentence if she kills him.

I do not believe in banning pornography. But I believe a rape victim should be able to sue the producers if their porn was used in grooming or played a part in raping the victim.
I believe the people who acted in the porn should be able to sue the producers of the porn if they suffered from physical and/or psychological damage from doing that shoot. For example if they had a torn up anus from doing that shoot. If they suffer from PTSD, flash backs etc. Also if they are offered drugs on set to get through a scene and they develop a drug addiction they should be able to sue.
I also believe porn producers should be fined if their porn promotes violence or subordination against/of women.

Now clothing! No I don't believe certain clothing should be banned. If you are talking about the high heels thing, no I don't believe they should be banned. No I dont believe women should be prosecuted for wearing them. But I stand by that they are a modern form of foot binding, which is why I suppose they have a big place in the porn industry.

Make up! No there shouldn't be an age limit in purchasing make up. Rather there should be a radical change in how we view beauty standards and the ways in which they are imposed on us.
Can you tell me one diet advert you have seen purely aimed a men? All I've seen is a 40 year old woman in a tight dress talking about how much better she feels about herself now that she's lost 5 stones. Women are fed this faux confidence. If we look a certain way we will feel so much more confident in ourselves we will finally be happy. Well it's BS isn't it.

I'm not 100% sure how we should go about prostitution in the legal sense, I'm more leaning towards the Swedish model. Which is it's legal to be a prostitute but illegal to buy one.
I am 100% against someone being prosecuted for being a prostitute, which has lead to women being raped by police officers.

Ok..... no offence here, but there have cases where men have saved young girls at risk..... by taking them home. You were a minor. Where were you? What time? Why were you not with an adult?

I'm talking about shouting out "nice boobs" or "nice legs."
You hate this..... but some women don't mind it. Do you want to make it a crime?

I'm talking about trying to put your hand on my ****.
Trying? If succeeding, in England, this is a criminal offence.

I'm talking about being chatted up by a 60 year old when your 14 and in your school uniform.
Sometimes this is serious, sure, but don't make it an offence for me or other pensioners to talk to a minor.

I'm talking about making fisting signs at me from your van when I'm about to cross the road.
Not nice, eh? But no crime, sadly.

And even just telling a woman she is beautiful or sexy while she is walking down the street minding her own business and not in a social situation, to me is a sign of dominance.
Not always. Some women like this. Do you want to make it a crime?

You used the second person singular through all of that. It made no difference to me at all. Honi Soit Qui Mali Pense. This is writ large above every bench and Crown Court in England.

If you ruled England, totally, how would you make a difference?
