How a good governmental leader acts

halbhh

The wonder and awe of "all things".
“A leader is best
When people barely know he exists
Of a good leader, who talks little,
When his work is done, his aim fulfilled,
They will say, “We did this ourselves.”
― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

------------
Why so? Because one person trying to run everything, or be the solution, be one one who understands best -- that is above human. Only a Christ could do that. For human leaders, the best is instead what Lao Tzu said.

A good President then, for the United States, would be one we don't hear much from or about.....

What would it be like to have a good President?

People in the U.S. today hardly know.

The wonder and awe of "all things".
Example: for Iran, a good President would just not even give them all that emphatic/dramatic attention over the years and months.

A tyrant famously needs an enemy. Needs to trumpet and make loud the 'enemy'....

A good president instead can ignore more things. There is less for him/her to do!

Ignoring many things that too many people clamor about, certain kinds of problems would fix themselves, in time. Better.

Wisdom includes knowing what problems to address, and which to best not react to.

Why would you limit it to the U.S. and Iran only?

Eastern cultures have a very different view of leadership than the West does, I think. Eastern cultures have long understood the importance of the community and the whole and individuals are often self-effacing or humble. The West, by contrast (and in particular the United States) puts a premium on the individual and the accomplishments of the ego. To a Westerner, a good leader would be a stand-out figure who is loud rather than what is described by the honorable Lao Tzu.

Yes, and our loudest most showy leaders are those who do the most damage, it seems, over time.

You are expressing something very spiritual. For example, from the Jewish tradition there is this which to me is in the same "ballpark" as the OP:

"A true leader does not seek followers, he wants to teach others how to be leaders. He does not want control, he wants the truth. He does not impose his leadership on others, nor does he take away anyone's autonomy. He inspires by love, not coercion. When it comes time to take credit, he makes himself invisible; but he is the first to arrive at the time of need, and he will never shrink away in fear. He is so passionate about your welfare that when you consult him for guidance, it is like coming face to face with yourself for the first time."

I've always thought the best person for the job is the person who doesn't want it. Would only accept it reluctantly, out of a sense of duty.
