Personally, since I have long considered Gandhi to be my main religious mentor, my attitude is more aligned with his on this which, granted, is and was not par for the course within Hinduism or any other religion.
BTW, are you familiar with Fr. Pierre de Chardin and his approach?
Gandhi was a perfect Vaishnava and a perfect Hindu. His Hinduism was never in question.
Yeah, I have heard the name. A priest who remained with him for a long time.
What may have been controversial were his political views and his "Experiments with Truth'.
So, Pierre de Chardin was a scientists. That is doubly credible. Checking about him in Wikipedia.

Agreed, and my wording of my post that you're responding to here was badly worded as I certain;y was not implying that Gandhi wan't fully Hindu, but more along the line that not all Hindus agreed with him at times, especially with his willingness to collaborate with Muslims.
