is hell, or strife, a place of duality, division, where reconciliation, oneness isn't possible due to the belief in permanence of differences

good fences make good neighbors / good neighbors make good fences ?

bad neighbor's end up hedging, fencing?
bad neighbors don't respect boundaries. it's an example where duality isn't hellish. neighbors can live close to each other if there is a good fence. without the fence, they can't live comfortably close to each other. without the fence, perhaps, they would be more comfortable choosing to live far apart. so far, that they couldn't be considred neighbors anymore.

the fence enables unity into a neighborhood.

but generally its something about the differences in mindset and where the self recognizes the boundary of self in relationship to other as self, no?

Nope. Hell is confusion.
this too yes but confusion occurs where knowledge doesn't exist and belief was depended upon enlieu of experience. so 2+2 = 4 but it isn't going to find the volume of a cube. more is needed to know

Hell is not knowing. so Hell could be the cause of suffering, or not having the knowledge of what would become of self, the cessation of self, the death of self, not knowing self

I don’t think so.

Maybe hell is the deep, profound regret felt when gaining the clarity to realize the damage done by the evil/ misdeeds committed.
Maybe it’s living with the duality within - having clarity while at the same time unable to escape a damaged soul - damaged through ones own misdeeds.
I believe Judaism says hell lasts for a maximum of one year, so whatever hell is - it’s a purifier - allowing the soul to progress once the process completes.

outliers?
fences, harmony, metaphor, etc ... they all arise from duality but do not foster strife. I already mentioned how a proper fence allows two dissimilar people to live and support each other as neighbors.

A primitive example is fire and water. The two, in general, can't be mixed. But they can be brought close to each other, if the water is contained in a vessel. Presto! You've got tea. The fire and water united can serve a higher purpose if and only if the water submits to the vessel.
