Just listen to stuff like this:

Metal is made of many different subgenres. I like the metalcore, melodic death metal and thrash side the most, with some black metal. Just go exploring. Check out At the Gates. ;)

Korn is nu metal, which is related to heavy metal but has influences from other genres. They're not pop at all. Lol.

Powerwolf are amazing. I could listen to Army of the Night on a loop all day.
I'll throw in Ad Infinitum as another solid option in the symphonic/power metal category. They're generally a bit softer and slower than Powerwolf but throw in some harsh vocals here and there.

Noticed that this thread has a disturbing lack of Rob Zombie

He's never managed to beat Hellbilly Deluxe. That album was solid gold.

I hadn't actually listened to any of his albums since Hellbilly Deluxe 2 so your comment prompted me to have a listen to something from his latest album... I had to turn it off halfway through.

A bit surprised to see some on this list - like Hawkwind, for example:

List of heavy metal bands - Wikipedia

Apart from Led Zeppelin, as to which I have several albums and did see them play live in the early 1970s, I can remember seeing these too - Black Widow and the Edgar Broughton Band. But never took much interest I have to admit in later examples.

His shows are worse. I remember when he was a Rock God on stage, putting on a show easily on par with the likes of Alice Cooper. Last time I saw him I felt like I was watching that Rock God fall from grace.

Today I was driving around and I saw this truck with a "Jesus Some Company LLC." Now, this, being around here, it wasn't "Jesus" but "Hey-zeus," but I saw this lettering, the stylization of it, and ding a ding dang I remembered something. Jesus built my hotrod.

And this is a Ministry, so please open your prayer guides to the Book of Revalations, Psalm 69.

Just more how I see that genre and some bands. Like Drowning Pool. Instrumentally they'd be intolerably boring if they weren't majorly down tuned and so heavily distorted because there's just not much going on other a wicked awesome screamer taken from us far too early.:(

I love Powerwolf so much I even love the covers they do. Their cover of Headless Cross is so awesome I thought it was Dio Sabbath but learned it was one of Black Sabbath's singers I never bothered learning the name of. I even think I like their cover of Touch of Evil more than Judas Priest's original.
I really like Epica. Kind of a heavier Nightwish.

OK, so I've listened to some Heavy Metal

    And I'm no metal head

I appreciate the musicianship but that genre is not for me

But I do like Led Zeppelin, I'm glad I have discovered them
