If a heaven existed then people quoting scriptures (usually completely irrelevant) all the time is just one very good example of why i dont want to go.

I will check on Google or in the phone book whether the restaurant exists or not. :)

Shouldn't you be interested anyway? And isn't Heaven the icing on the cake?

Not for many people who prefer to make the most of the life they have got rather than investing in the unknown and unknowable.

Depends. Did the owner of this restaurant have his son tortured to (sorta) death?

There is a movie but I included it in my last post. It doesn't have Meryl Streep though.

    Revelation 3:20 is better.

Very poor analogy. The restaurant in your little frame-up is obviously known to exist. In other words, you didn't set it up with the same parameters. With heaven, you have absolutely no manifestation that demonstrates its existence. None. In the case of the restaurant, all you said was that one doesn't know anyone who has gone, and so can't establish the truth of the advertising claims.

To make it equivalent, you would have had to state that there is absolutely NO proper evidence that the restaurant even exists. You can't find it on maps. You can't be told directions to it by anyone. You can't ask a driver to take you there. The ads suspiciously do not contain the address. Every time you are told about the restaurant by someone who claims it exists, the details are slightly different.

And in THAT case - the one more equivalent to the idea of heaven - the answer is NO. NO I would NOT be interested. I would have to conclude that the owners don't even want me to come, or they are completely inept at advertising, or that it is some kind of a trap or a trick. Seriously. That's where I would be at.

Also, as an aside: why is it that theists SO OFTEN produce analogies that ignore large holes or differences from the actual case they are arguing for?

The restaurant i am talking about does a beef stew using ribeye steak braised in red monbazillac for 8 hours. With seasonal veg thrown in for the last hour or so. Will that do?

I have no beef with people wanting to be good on their own. I still try to tell people though that I think belief in God or Heaven would help.

Hmmn....You're right about the title. Thanks. I couldn't remember.

However, the theology described and the plot of the movie sure seemed the same....Ah, well.

I think folks have confused state of mind with place.
