    Hello all :)

My messege to all supporter of hate of speech (whatever his race or religion ...)
Why you wonder when it's become/transform to acts/facts on ground ?!

Is not hypocrisy to support an opinion and deny it's acts on ground !!

    This needs to be clearer.

FYI, I don't support hate speech.
But neither do I want it criminalized.

Hardly anyone ever considers himself a defender of hate speech, @Godobeyer

Perception can be a tricky, very selective thing.

    Thanks for share your opinion.

There is another question, why don't want to criminalize a view almost certainly always leaded/leading to crimes in the end !

Do you realize that you are asking why Islaam is legal?

To give government the power to determine what is hate speech, & to criminalize it has problems....
    - It's unconstitutional here.
    - It encourages governmental oppression of those it disagrees with.
    - Some religious scripture could be called hate speech.

Hate is not a crime. Breaking the law is a crime. Inciting people to break the law is a crime.

It's one thing to express hatred for someone, like Trump for example. It's a crime to try and persuade someone to cause physical harm to someone.

    So hate speech is?

Expressing one's hatred for a person our group, ok.
Encouraging others to cause harm to a person or group, not ok.

Maybe it's a thin line but I'd think you'd need to be very specific about the wording to prove a crime.

Supporting freedom of speech is not supporting anyone's opinions.

There are other ways of dealing with people you "hate" which is not criminal. I tend to hate bullies, doesn't mean I'm going to commit a crime against them.

When hate of speech encourage violence , surely in end turn to crimes, what except?

USA fighting Iran because "down with USA",and its hates speech toward Isreal regime. But don't look to hate of speech of some Zionists, and racists acts done by Isreal.

Oh, threatening people with violence is against the law here in the U.S.A.

But as long as you don't threaten with physical violence, you can say almost anything.

You see, there is a difference between "hate speech" and threatening people.

With threatening people, it is an admission that you promise to commit a crime. It becomes just as legal as a person's signature.

Someone saying that their goal is to "wipe Israel off the map" is a promised goal.

...That is why we want to disarm Iran and punish them.

Depends on the laws in Israel and Iran. In the USA anyway, Encouraging others to commit act of violence is a crime. If I started telling people the should go kill Black/Jews/Arabs/Asians/Gays. It would be IMO criminal and I could understand the government wanting to prosecute me.

I wouldn't support anyone encouraging others to act in violence. Maybe if you had specific examples instead of general ideas. The US current acts against Iran are sanctions, as far as I know, not violence.

I'm against military action against Iran except as a matter of defense.

Why do I get the feeling you started this thread with the specific goal of dragging Israel into it?

I've always felt words weither hurtful or good don't really mean anything. Words can't hurt people unless the recipient wants the words to hurt them.

Criminalizing words before action is always dangerous.

Unless someone says: "there's a bomb in the hospital that's set to detonate in 2 minutes". And in running out of the building, people in ICU die, and patients fall off gurneys as staff races to save their lives. Women in labor are left abandoned, a doctor in heart surgery excuses himself from the procedure.

...I would want the caller to be prosecuted in that case.

Right. There is a difference between supporting what someone says, and supporting their right to say it. I think bigoted speech is disgusting, but I also think that denying free speech is even more so.
