Has your religious/spiritual journey changed your views on sex?

I would hope you wouldn't try and sneak a peak watching your dad watch porn...

Eh, my dad was so low key with his sexual expression that it was hard to tell whether or not he was ever thinking that way anyway. Other than the presence of those books or noticing him watching something on TV I generally had no idea he was interested in the opposite sex. I really didn't understand him until much later in life in that regard since he was so obscure about it.

I'm not familiar with the Dharmic views on that. Interesting.
In the "Dharmic view" (if it is seen as singular?) people become like (the way) they think.
You can only think one thing at a time and those ideations on your mental plate will cause you to move in a certain direction towards Dharma or away from it.
In the direction of following Dharma you will expand your mind or consciousness and become more free of the limiting effects of your desires and attachments including those shared with animals.

Having sex does not automatically mean that you are going against Dharma, it depends on how you ideate and for men how you control your type of orgasm.
But if you become sort of a slave of your growing desires that is another matter, it will become harder to practise Dharma or it will even make it impossible.

In Tantra it is believed that men lose their vitality through expelling blood or semen and women through their monthly periods.
Men who manage to save it for more than a week are at an advantage because the excess vital force can be used for better health and for spiritual purposes (meditation and higher forms of ideation). That is also why some men who are into fighting sports try to limit their loss of semen as much as possible as that increases their health, concentration power and stamina.

Diet and cleanliness can be a tool in Tantra for limiting sexual arousal and its consequences and (for men) also wearing special tight underwear in combination with removing the foreskin or keeping it in a retracted position.

Sin is more about breaking the rules of the church as reflected in the christian Bible. This is not the way that people think who try to follow Dharma. It is not seen as a spiritual sin to have sex in whatever way you wish, it is more the cultural side of society that frowns on it.

I’ve read a lot of positive effects from tantra. Thanks for explaining this.

Very scientific, I should say. :D
But then, perhaps you are from an Abrahamic religion who is interested in Tantra. Am I correct, Marcion?

Unfortunately in the West many people are under the illusion that Tantra has mostly to do with sexual techniques or using sex for spiritual growth. In fact most Tantra is not at all like that, rather it is about practical spirituality free of dogma and religious boundaries. Any path, life style or religion that is practical or effective instead of mainly theoretical can be called tantric. Tantra means to liberate the self from darkness or ignorance.

Using sex, drugs or even eating meat as a tantric path is a type of extreme left-handed tantra that is done by very few people in India and only under strict guidance from an established teacher in some far away places. If you mess with such techniques in a commercial or amateur setting you are playing with fire and wasting your life.

Depending on different religions and beliefs surrounding sexuality and sex, one's opinions and experiences regarding sex, can often change.

Some religions make a lot of different sex practices out to be ''sinful,'' while others, don't. Since many of us follow various religions and belief systems, thought I'd start a discussion to see where it all falls.
My spiritual journey has not changed my view on sexuality very much, but it has changed a little, and it changed my life... for the better, I think.

I guess with the little understanding I had growing up, I believed in the old values on sexuality. In fact I didn't know much about any other sexuality other than hearing the slang used for homosexuality.
I always thought of sex by this old definition -
The act of sexual procreation between a man and a woman; the man's penis is inserted into the woman's vagina and excited until orgasm and ejaculation occur

Long story short.
I am always saying to myself, if it were not for the spiritual instruction I gained, I would likely be either in serious trouble, or dead, as the following cases show.

Affidavit: Chris Watts was having affair, claimed wife tried to kill daughters before he killed her
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
Can a Minor Be Charged with Statutory Rape?
Can I Be Charged with Statutory Rape if it was Consensual?

So I am thankful that I learned God's view on sexuality and sex.
The way I view it is like how I feel when I go to the store and buy a product, and I open the package, and discover that it has a manual.
"Oh Goody! Now I know exactly what to do to take care of it, and how to operate it correctly."

This is the way I see the situation.
If someone can prove to me that mankind was not designed, then I would agree we don't need a manual - a guide, so to speak - to help us know how best to "operate".

I find that the Bible's has practical guidance that always work - not works some of the time, but all of the time.
For example:
It says sex is a good thing, to be enjoyed between a man and woman only. Not between a man and a man, or man and animal, man and baby or child, or man and machine.
Proverbs 5:15-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20; 7:1-5; Leviticus 18:6-24;

Sexual immorality. From the Greek porneia, a general term for all unlawful sexual intercourse. It includes adultery, prostitution, sexual relations between unmarried individuals, homosexuality, and bestiality.

What about oral and anal sex? Do I view it as clean, even in marriage?
WHAT IS SEXUAL IMMORALITY?
What is sexual immorality? Why is it a serious matter?

7 Many people today have a brazen attitude and openly disrespect God’s laws on sex. In the Bible, sexual immorality refers to sexual activity between people who are not Scripturally married to each other. It includes sexual activity between people of the same gender and sex between humans and animals. Sexual activity can be sexual relations, oral sex, anal sex, or touching another person’s genitals in a sexual way.—See Endnote 23.

8 The Bible makes it clear that if someone continues to practice sexual immorality, he cannot remain in the congregation. (1 Corinthians 6:9; Revelation 22:15) Additionally, an immoral person loses respect for himself and the trust of others. Immorality always results in problems. It usually leads to a guilty conscience and often brings unwanted pregnancy, marriage problems, disease, or even death. (Read Galatians 6:7, 8.) If a person really stopped and thought about what immorality leads to, he probably would not want to be immoral. But often a person is thinking only about satisfying his own desires when he takes the first step toward immorality. That first step often involves pornography.

Honor Godly Marriage!

I like that the Bible's practical wisdom protected and continue to protect me and millions of others from depravity, and perverted sex.

Many people think that they should be free to engage in any sexual activity they desire, but what is the purpose?
To me it seems that the focus is all on pleasure - sexual gratification.
My spiritual journey has helped me to stop seeing women as a mere sex object, and not worship sex and the sex organ.

I could have turned out just like those men that are married, and still want to have sex with their own small daughter, big daughter, niece, other woman, prostitute, and even man.
Why would a married man do this, it it is not the case that he is just sexually perverted?

Thanks to the manual for human living from the manufacturer, my spiritual journey is sweet. ;)
