It's a term we borrow from Sweden, mainly (Midsommar). They only have two seasons, basically. So, for them, the summer solstice is a middle point between the vernal and autumn equinoxes. :D
And we have only two seasons here. Wet and dry.. Dry just started. It runs through mid-October. Three and a half months dry and eight and a half wet.

So far this year we've had "normal" seasons. We were blessed with an actual Spring! Now, we will be cursed with a Southern Summer in the lower Ohio Valley.... searing temperatures with suffocating humidity. I love it all. As long as we have old fashioned four seasons for a while. :D
