It's a term we borrow from Sweden, mainly (Midsommar). They only have two seasons, basically. So, for them, the summer solstice is a middle point between the vernal and autumn equinoxes.

So far this year we've had "normal" seasons. We were blessed with an actual Spring! Now, we will be cursed with a Southern Summer in the lower Ohio Valley.... searing temperatures with suffocating humidity. I love it all. As long as we have old fashioned four seasons for a while.
