Oh, and thanks for liberating France and Italy in 1945, I suppose. Try to avoid coming to blows with China though, if you could. And you can have the War on Terror back. Plus the one on drugs, that didn't really work either.

When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, there were several versions before the familiar, final one.

However, one line was included in every draft, justly famous world over, because it was held to represent the very basis of the revolution:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men.


May these values continue to burn bright, 245 years later.
