I think this is what bugs me. People claiming to know what God wants. I'm not saying there is a God or isn't one, just these claims of possessing special knowledge about God. So much for humility.

These claims about God end up making God sound as psycho as the rest of us.

Your bacteria don't worship you?! I don't know what I'd do without my daily microscopic votive offerings.

God is fully self-sufficient and fully self-sustaining so God does not NEED anything from humans.

“Regard thou the one true God as One Who is apart from, and immeasurably exalted above, all created things. The whole universe reflecteth His glory, while He is Himself independent of, and transcendeth His creatures.” Gleanings, p. 166

God WANTS humans to worship Him for our own benefit, not for God’s benefit. God needs nothing from humans.

“The one true God, exalted be His glory, hath wished nothing for Himself. The allegiance of mankind profiteth Him not, neither doth its perversity harm Him. The Bird of the Realm of Utterance voiceth continually this call: “All things have I willed for thee, and thee, too, for thine own sake.” Gleanings, p. 260

    Excellent point.

I’ve often been curious how people define “worship”

That is not "pure logic." It's not even impure logic. It is merely an assertion, for which you can provide no reasonable justification at all.

I have no doubt that this is what you believe, why, I do not know.

What's the benefit of worshiping a deity with prayers, rituals, churches and the like?

A little of both (agree and disagree).

I think that this One God resides in all of us too and we can realize that. At that point worship transforms into realization of the Oneness in all of us.

These kind of statements always make me crazy -- how in the heck is it that so many people can make so many claims about what "God is" or "God wants?" How many have a direct line, share the occasional tea with the deity so they can learn what He's thinking lately?

The more I engage in religious debate, the more I lean towards the notion that one of the most characteristic traits of most humans is complete gullibility.

That is a good question. It seems to benefit most believers because they get a feeling of being connected to God.
It does not benefit me that much because I do not even want to be connected to God.

I can't say I disagree with you. Believers are for the most part pretty gullible.

So your God wants worship because it's good for some believers (because it makes them feel connected to God somehow). That seems like a weak reason.

I like your avatar - is this from a Vemeer painting?

ps your assertion is fine with me - this is why God is a jealous God.

Again, God does not want worship for His own benefit, God wants believers to worship Him for their own benefit.
Why do you think that feeling connected to God is a weak reason? God wants us to feel connected to Him because it is for our own benefit.

One because some faithful people don't feel the need nor the drive to do so, making this largely pointless and the benefits reaped by worship to those who do feel that need and drive (or obey that command) are minimal.

I don't think that is true. Just ask most believers and they will tell you that they derive a lot of benefit from worshiping God. I am an exception because I don't like God very much. I could easily be an atheist if I did not believe that God exists.
