As Salaam Alaikum: I think that the two are intertied. Evolution happens as it is directed by Allah SWT.

Perhaps in some lower forms of life evolution was used, but Not where human life is concerned.
Adam did Not evolve but was ' formed ' (fashioned) from existing Earth - Genesis 2:7.
Adam was Not alive before his God breathed the ' breath of life ' into life-less Adam.
So, Adam went from non-life (clay) to life, and returned back to non-life.
A person can Not ' return ' to a place he never was before, thus Adam returned back to the 'clay' of the ground - Genesis 3:19.

This a religious interpretation of the scripture, and not science. I might add humanity could still be evolved and come from the earth by natural methods as the evidence demonstrated as God Created.

ok what? You have no thoughts on the matter, or are just being dismissive of my thoughts because you don't agree for some unstated reason? One can believe in God, while not having to believe nonsense scriptural interpretations as a prerequisite to faith. Thank God that's true, otherwise there'd be a lot more atheists about. :)

Yes, as God already created the already existing ground and fashioned it into life-less Adam - Genesis 2:7
Then, after God breathed the 'breath of life' into life-less Adam is when formed Adam started to breathe or come alive.
At death Adam ' returned ' back to where he started according to Genesis 3:19 the dust of the ground.

Literal interpretation if ancient scripture and world views over 2,000 years old do not remotely fit the matter of fact evidence.Over .2000 years ago the Roman philosopher Lucretius got it closer than anyone else at the time.

Accepting the accumulated scientific knowledge of mankind is not faith-based. It is rational.

Perhaps you still believe in a flat earth.

Ah, but we do see it in nature. At least those who have taken the time to get educated see it.

The best explanation I found in Nachmanides's "Commentary on the Torah":
"Everything that exists under the sun or above was not made from non-existence at the onset. Instead He brought forth from total and absolute nothing a vert thin substance devoid of corporeality but having a power of potency. This was a primary matter created by G-d, it is called by Greeks hyly (matter). After the hyly , He did not create anything , but he formed and made things with it, and from this hyly he brought everything in existence and closed the forms and put them into finished condition... This substance …(holy) Is called in sacred language tohu'... The form which this substance finally takes on is called in the sacred language bohu, which is a composite word made up of two words bo hu (In it there is [substance])….tohu is the line which the craftsman delineates the plan of his structure and that he hopes to make."

Maybe Adam wasn't the first man.

Apologize to @viole for answering what was meant for her.

I don't think how you characterize it is really the case. On the subject of evolution, I have read mountains and mountains of work, and followed the trail of links and citations, so that I feel I really understand it quite well. And that understanding has nothing to do with "faith," but rather with acceptance of a truth merely on the weight of the evidence for it, and the lack of evidence against it.

Christians would say "Evolution happens as it is directed by God.
