BOSTON (AP) — Gay rights supporters waving rainbow colors marched, chanted and danced in cities coast to coast Saturday to protest the vote that banned gay marriage in California and to urge supporters not to quit the fight for the right to wed.
Crowds gathered near public buildings in cities large and small, including Boston, San Francisco, Chicago and Fargo, to vent their frustrations, celebrate gay relationships and renew calls for change.
"Civil marriages are a civil right, and we're going to keep fighting until we get the rights we deserve as American citizens," said Karen Amico, one of several hundred protesters in Philadelphia, holding up a sign reading "Don't Spread H8".
"We are the American family, we live next door to you, we teach your children, we take care of your elderly," said Heather Baker a special education teacher from Boston who addressed the crowd at Boston's City Hall Plaza. "We need equal rights across the country."

Who knows, maybe Saint Barack will have a change of heart, though I am not holding my breath.

Which sort of change of heart, Ymir?
To simply come out of the political closet and speak out for gay marriage as opposed to civil unions. If it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, then why not just call it a duck... instead of just ducking the issue.

I wonder if the passage of Prop 8 will stir up more trouble for the Religious Right than they come to think it was worth?

It already has. It will take a few years for the impact to be fully felt though. Homophobia is yet another dying fear, thankfully.

Setbacks like these are frequently veiled victories because they bring attention to the wrongs being done.

“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” ~ Elie Wiesel

I don't believe we are powerless. If everyone who loves freedom and justice stand together, we can move this mountain.

Change just may come from an activist clergy who believe in Christ's love as a guiding concern, Paul not withstanding. The days of the Old Testament have come to end in many of the human injustices it promoted. This must be another one.

nope, no trouble here, Those who are advocating anarchy and trying to intimidate us out of changing our minds are going to realize that it is in vain.

I don't want to intimidate you, I want to educate you. :flower: I want to show you that you have nothing to fear from me and my family having legal rights. I am just as much a citizen as you are and I believe I should be allowed the same rights you and your partner enjoy.

Anarchy? Last week I was called a socialist. :biglaugh:

sorry, But i don't have a "partner" I have a Marriage, a wife, and a daughter.

Same-Sex marriage is a blatant attack on the institution of marriage and a perversion to The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Gender is part of our divine heritage, man and woman together have the opportunity to have an eternal progression through their seed. marriage was meant to be eternal but was lost along with other important eternal truths. thankfully the truth has been restored and we will do whatever we can to protect the family unit as ordained by God from before the foundation of this world.

Yup, and fifty years ago it was illegal for my wife and I to get married. I'm white, she's black. I would also have been barred from adopting my daughter (also black). Some of the same Bible passages (and some others) were used to defend those legal prohibitions as are being used to defend Prop 8 today.

I understand that is your religious beliefs and I respect that is how you choose to live your life. But I am not Mormon, I'm not even Christian and what your religious laws tell you is but an academic curiosity to me. I don't want to live by your religious laws and I definitely do not think my government should be making laws based on ANY religion's laws.

Is it your agenda then to force everyone to live by your religious beliefs?

Is the existence of religions that don't agree with yours also a "perversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ"? Why aren't you clamouring to make those "perversions" illegal?

Yet certain religions marry homosexuals. They are "married". It is called marriage.

Why do you wish to persecute them for their religious beliefs?

As well, on numerous occasions it has been shown that the popular notions of gender, and as I have shown on numerous occasions, that the dimorphic nature of sexual identity.......are false. Yet you believe your God created these individuals. So either the leadership of your Church is ignorant in knowing God or they are lying.

That's not an attack. It's basic reasoning.

And when I get married I'll have a marriage and a husband. But I'll also have a partner. Because my husband is my partner, just as he is my partner now even though we are not legally married. We are partners because we are "in this together" That's what it means to call someone a "partner". are you and your wife not "in it together."?

When did Jesus ever even mention homosexuality. and aside from that Jesus Christ's gospel was all about love. same-sex couples love eachother just as much as opposite-sex couples. How can a relationship based on love be an attack on a gospel that is also based on love. And for that matter how can letting more people GET married possibly do anything AGAINST marriage. If you truly want to protect marriage don't you think your efforts would be better served focusing on the 50% of couples who get divorced than on the 1 or 2% that just want to get married.

Except we don't live in a theocracy; we live in a secular democratic-republic. And as such the "dictates of god" have no bearing(or at least should have no bearing) on our laws.
