Four Sahabah – Companions (ra)

DawudTalut

Peace be upon you.
Peace and mercy of Allah be on you.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with him) – He was a cousin of Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) as his mother was a parental aunt of Him (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). He had accepted Islam before Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) went to Daral Arqam (This was a house, little away from Makkah, it belonged to new-muslim Arqam. In this center, muslims would gather to learn Deen and to offer worship and to attend gatherings of Holy Prophet sa; for this reason it was also famous as Darul Salam; it remained center for Makkah for three years. After Hazrat Umar accepted Islam, muslims began to come out openly; he was last man to accept Islam in that center.)

==

The family of Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh ra suffered from polytheists of Quraish. He and some relatives migrated to habshah (Abyssinia, now Ethiopia) twice. He came to Makkah, and along with people of his tribe who accepted Islam migrated to Madinah; their neighborhood became empty, houses were locked. (similar conditions are in Pakistan in some places with Ahmadis, some villages have become empty). His house was sold in his absence. In Madinah, he informed Holy Prophet sa about it, he (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said: O Abdullah! Are you not pleased that Allah grant you castle in paradise instead of this.....Abdullah ra said: Yes O messenger of Allah! I am pleased...He (s.a.w.) said: So that castle is for you.

==

Even when Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) migrated to Madinah due to Makkans’ oppressions, their rage did not decrease and they began to threaten people of Madinah that since they have given refuge to their people (muslims) so people of Madinah should either murder all refugees or expel them otherwise they swear to attack Madinah and murder its people, and capture women. Then Makkans began preparation.

==

In these conditions, Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) often would wake all night. Similarly Sahabah would remain armed all night.... Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) made agreements with tribes living near Madinah and sent Abdullah bin Jahsh to Nakhla and gave him a letter and instructed to open it after 2 days....As instructed, letter was opened, it said, stay in Nakhla and inform us about conditions of Quraish....By chance a small convoy of Quraish passed by, it was coming from Syria with business material. Using personal judgment, Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh ra attacked them, one man Amr bin Hazrami died, two arrested and material was captured....On return to Madinah, when Abdullah bin Jahsh ra reported about this incidence to Holy Prophet sa, he became very angry and said he did not give permission to fight, and refused to get material..Moreover Abdullah bin Jahsh ra thought still it was 30 th of month Jamadi-us-sani and month of Rajab had not begun. Makkans began to said that now muslims are not caring these holy months, in which, all kind of wars would remain stop.

==

Hazrat Musleh Moud ra writes in explanation of verse ‘yas-alonaka anish-shahril haramey qitalin fih’, Allah the Exalted says in this verse that surely it is disliked matter to fight in these months and sin according to Allah the Exalted, but more disliked thing than it, is to stop people from path of Allah the Exalted and to deny His Touheed and to disrespect sanctity of Kaba to expel its people from their home only because they believed in One God...You Makkans considered one thing but did not think how big crime you are committing, muslims did mistake un-intentionally but you do by design.

==

Explaining a Hadith of Bukhari, according to Hazrat Syed Zainul Abedin Waliullah Shah sahib, events tell that the team of Hazrat Abdullah ra gained full success in objective. They gained sure information about foe’s movement and plans of Quraish of Makkah by the prisoners. Event about convoy of Hazrami was a by-chance appendix. This opinion of some historians is not right that members of this team had considered compensating about seized wealth of immigrants. The real purpose was to get right information through convoy of Hazrami, about purpose of convoy of Abu Sufyan bin Harb and plan of war of Quresh of Makkah . This objective was given to them with secrecy. That is why they did not miss the chance to get the small convoy... Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahash was sahabi of high level and also was cousin of Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) . He (s.a.w.) chose a trustworthy person for this campaign. When Holy Prophet sa learned about preparation of war of Quraish of Makkah, then he sa began preparation too with full secrecy......Though there are narratives that Holy Prophet sa showed displeasure to Abdullah ra for attacking convoy because it could have lead to cause trouble, but sometimes some matters which seem mistakes, are done under Divine Will and some small events lead to great results. So it was possible if campaign of Hazrat Abdullah was not sent and what took place by him, had not taken place, and convoy under Abu Sufyan coming from Syria had reached Makkah without danger, Quraish would have gotten very big benefit from that convoy and had attacked muslims with huge preparation. To compete them would have become unpleasant condition for muslims. But event of Hazrat Abdullah ra made arrogant leaders of Quresh furious, and in this anger and arrogance they reached in field of Badr in haste with about 1000 armed men to save their convoy as they thought. And they did not know, there death was destined there.... And, on other hand, it was possible, if noble Sahabah knew they are being taken to fight with armed army, some of them may have hesitated. So, secrecy did such work which camouflage trenches work in war.... Love of God and Messenger had freed them from all world, if they had any desire it was to sacrifice dear life in way of Allah in any way, their desire fulfilled.

Prayer of Hazrat Abdullah ra was accepted. Before battle of Ohad, he prayed in detail for being able to offer extreme sacrifice for defense of Islam. He was martyred and mutilated. (some extremist do it today too).

==

When Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) was going to Ohad to face foe, he stoped at a place Shekhain near Madinah. He was presented some food. A person ate from leftover as blessing, then Abdullah ra finished the available. He told someone he like to meet Allah with full instead of being hungry... These were amazing ways of love.

==

Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh ra and Hazrat Hamza bin Abdul Mutalib ra were buried in same grave. Later was uncle of previous.

==

Hazrat Abdullah ra judicious person. He was among Sahabah, from whom Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) sought counsel about Badr.

==

Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) was coming back to Madinah after Ohad battle, he said words of sympathy and prayers to Zainab ra also. Her uncle Hamza ra, brother Abdullah bin Jahsh ra and husband ra were martyred. With this prayer of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.), she was married to Hazrat Talha ra who was very kind to her children from previous marriage. (love and care is needed in families these days too)

==

Hazrat Ka’ab bin Ziad (may Allah be pleased with him)

He was from the Banu Najjar tribe. He was present in the Battle of Badr and martyred in Battle of Khandaq (Ditch). He was the sole survivor of Bir Maona. Bir Maona is where the Holy Prophet – on the request of a tribe – sent 70 of his companions a large party of whom were Huffaz (had memorized the entire Quran) and were Qaris (those recite the Quran properly). They had been deceived and all of them were martyred with the exception of Hazrat Ka’b. Hazrat K’ab survived because he had climbed on a mountain. According to some narrations the disbelievers attacked and injured him severely. Disbelievers left him, considering he was dead but he was alive. He returned to Madinah and eventually regained health.

==

Hazrat Saleh Shukraan (may Allah be pleased with him)

His name was Saleh and title was Shukraan. He was was a Habshi (Abyssinian) slave of Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) preferred him for his works and bought him from Hazrat Abdur Rahman...Other narrations say that Abdur Rahman ra gifted him to Holy Prophet (s.a.w.), who set him free in turn after he participated in the Battle of Badr. ....Hazrat Shukraan was from among the Ahl Sufa, those who were always at the door of the Holy Prophet (sa). Hazrat Shukran had the honour of taking part in the Ghusl (washing ritual of deceased body in Islam) and burial of the Holy Prophet (sa). Holy Prophet was given Ghusl with his clothes on...Hazrat Shukraan spread velvet sheet in grave, under Holy Prophet sa. Holy Prophet sa used to use it.

--

Hazrat Shukran was made overseer of wealth, weapons, livestock etc, obtained from the camps at the Battle of Muraysi. He was very trustworthy.

--

Hazrat Umar ra sent the son of Hazrat Shukraan ra to Hazrat Musa Ash’ari ra and wrote, I am sending a virtuous person Abdur Rahman bin Saleh Shukraan who was freed slave of Holy Prophet sa. Treat him by considering status of his father considered by Holy Prophet sa . (Islam gave such high status to slaves that, not only freed them from slavery but their progeny too were respected)

--

Hazrat Shukraan ra took residence in Madinah and he also had a house in Basra. He passed away during the period of the Khilafat of Hazrat Umar (ra).

DawudTalut

Peace be upon you.
Hazrat Maalik bin Dukhshum (may Allah be pleased with him)

He was from the Khizraj tribe’s family of Banu Ghanam Bin Auf. He had a daughter named Furiya. According to some historians, Hazrat Maalik joined Bai'at e Uqba. Hazrat Malik took part in the (defensive battles to save early Islam) ; Battles of Badr, Ohad and Khandaak and all other battles after wards along with the Holy Prophet (sa).

--

A person Suhail bin Amr was amongst the senior and respected leaders of the Quraish. He was part of the Battle of Badr on the side of the polytheists. He was arrowed by Hazrat Sa’ad in that battle. Sa’ad ra followed his trail, but man was captured by Maalik ra.

--

Sa’ad ra said it was his prisoner but Maalik ra said it was his. Matter was taken to Holy Prophet sa . He sa took Suhail from both. .. At place Roha, Suhail sliped from hands of Maalik ra. Maalik ra announced loudly and began to search. Holy Prophet sa said, whoever find him kill him (Suhail had come to kill believers, had fought, became prisoner and ran; again danger could have been developed, he was dangerous prisoner of war. So it was ordered).

--

But Suhail’s life was destined to be saved, he was found by Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) but he sa did not kill him, he was caught. (this character of Holy Prophet sa is answer to those oppressors who blame he sa oppressed and did killings; when such a man is caught by himself he did not kill him)

--

It is in Sahih Bukhari, Hazrat Utban bin Maalik ra (who was among those Ansari Sahabah who joined Badr battle) came to Holy Prophet sa and said I lead Salaat for my people my eye sight has become weak. During rains, flood come in chanel beteen me and them and I can not lead Salaat in their mosque. O messenger of Allah I desire that you please come in my house and lead Salaat in it and I make it mosque... Holy Prophet sa said inshaAllah I will come....One day he sa and Hazrat Abu Bakr ra came to his house in early morning and sought permission to come in. After coming Holy Prophet sa asked where sahabi wanted Salaat should be offered... At the place told by sahabi, Holy Prophet sa lead 2 rakat Salaat till salam part.... Afterward food was presented. People from area too came. One person said, where is Maalik bin Dukhshum? A speaker replied he is hypocrite, he does not love Allah and His Messenger. (perhaps so was said because he had not come ; he lived in area)..... Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said, do not you see him, he has professed ‘la elaha illallah’ he wants pleasure of Allah with it....Speaker said, Allah and His Messenger knows better; we see his attention and good-will for hypocrites.(perhaps due to kindness of heart he wanted to convey message to hypocrites and bring them close to Islam, so he may have sympathy for them. for this reason misunderstanding was develpoed ).....Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said, surely Allah the Exalted has made fire forbidden for that person who admits ‘la elaha illallah’ with condtion that he wants pleasure of Allah the Exalted by this acknowledgment. ( this is answer to those so-called scholars who give fatwas of disbelief, especially they oppressed Ahmadis in this respect. Fatwas of so-called scholars have destroyed peace of muslim countries. In Pakistan, a movement is working ‘labaik ya rasulluah’. Real labaik is this what Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said that who says ‘la elaha illallah’ do not say he is not muslim, Allah the Exalted has made fire forbidden for him if he says so to seek pleasure of Allah...vs.... these people say no, you do not seek pleasure of Allah. How do they know what is in hearts. Do they know more than Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). may Allah the Exalted save nation from these people... Aamin)

A tradition says, a person complained to Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) that Hazrat Maalik is hypocrite. Holy Prophet sa said, does he not admit ‘la elaha illallah’.. Itban said there is no witness... Holy Prophet sa asked, does he not offer salaat? he said why not, but his Salaat is not any Salaat. Holy Prophet sa said these are people, for whom, Allah the Exalted has stoped me to make a opinion from myself. (only Allah the Exalted knows state of hearts. Allah the Exalted stoped Holy Prophet sa but these so called scholars think they can do whatever they like, in the name of Allah)

--

Hazrat Anas ra narrates, hards words were said Hazrat Maalik ra before Holy Prophet sa, he said ‘la tosubu ashabi’ do not call hard words for my companions.

--

On the way back from the Battle of Tabuk, the Holy Prophet (sa) stopped near Madinah at a place called Zawawan. He sa recieved revelation about Masjid Al-Zarar. The Holy Prophet (sa) called for Hazrat Maalik bin Dukhshum and Hazrat Ma’an bin Adi and ordered them to go towards Masjid Al-Zarar. Hazrat Malik bin Dukhshum and Hazrat Ma’an bin Adi went quickly to the Banu Saalam tribe, which was the tribe of Hazrat Maalik bin Dukhshum. Hazrat Maalik bin Dukhshum said to Hazrat Ma’an to wait for him so that he bring from home something for fire. He brought from home a dried date palm branch lit on fire. They then went towards Masjid Al-Zarar and according to a narration they arrived between Maghrib and Ishaa prayers. They set it alight and raised it to the ground. (Thus, some people, due to misunderstanding (we cannot have ill thought about Sahabah) assumed that perhaps he is on wrong path to the extent that he was called a hypocrite. However, later he became the one who destroyed and end the centre of the hypocrites by the instructions of Allah the Exalted.)

May Allah the Exalted continue to elevate the stations of those Sahabah ra and enable us to review ourselves that what are commandments of Allah the Exalted and up to what extent we follow them.
