'A former head of the Vatican bank, Angelo Caloia, has been found guilty of embezzlement and money laundering and sentenced to eight years and 11 months in prison, making him the highest-ranking Vatican official to be convicted of a financial crime.

The Vatican court on Thursday also convicted Gabriele Liuzzo, 97, and his son Lamberto Liuzzo, 55, both Italian lawyers who were consultants to the bank.'

    Good news.

Cleaning up the Vatican finances will be a huge task. I'm glad to see some progress.

At last. The books of Nuzzi and Chaouqui are of at least 8 years ago.
Clearly the Pope is trying to clear the image of the Vatican. Let us hope it is definitive,

An excellent and compelling example of precisely the sort of sterling, yet strangely prosecutable, behavior we are all likely to benefit from should we ever wish to live under the rule of a theocracy.

Beyond that, these prosecutions seem unlikely to have happened without the support of whats-his-name? The dude from Argentina they picked to wear that god-awful hat so no one else had to. That guy.

The Vatican Bank has long been the subject movies, from violence to comedy; Godfather III, and a comedy, 'To Kill a Pope'.
