"For many be called, but few chosen.” For Christians only

I believe it means Jesus has and does call many people to become children of God. But not many people choose to obey and live God’s Commandments. Those who choose not to live God’s Commandments are not chosen to come with Jesus to the kingdom of heaven.

(John 12:47-48) “If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithfully, it is not I who shall condemn him, since I have come not to condemn the world, but to save the world: he who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day.”

Those who have heard God’s Word are those who have been called. Those who refuses God’s Word are those who have not been chosen.
Right! And that is what the man said. People who won't live to do the will of God CAN'T enter the Kingdom of God. No chosen or not chosen.

If a person is not able to do something OF COURSE he won't be chosen to do it.
All the people God calls have been or will be given the grace to be able to live God’s Commandments. God did not take away the free will of those whom he calls.

When I accepted Jesus call into his ministry, one of the first things he asked me to do was give him my life. After I gave Jesus my life his will was done in my life from that day on. God’s will, will be my will forever.

Not living God's Commandments is sinning. If one knows what God's Commandments are, and deliberately does not obey, then he or she will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

(1 Corinthians 5:11) “What I wrote was that you should not associate with a brother Christian who is leading an immoral life, or is a usurer, or idolatrous, or a slanderer, or a drunkard or is dishonest; you should not even eat a meal with people like that.”

(1 Corinthians 6:9-19) “You know perfectly well that people who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God: people of immoral lives, idolaters, adulterers, catamites, sodomites, thieves, usurers, drunkards, slanders and swindlers will never inherit the kingdom of God”

Also one who sins is not one of God’s Chosen.

By the way I am not here teaching anything. A teacher expect his or her students to understand. I know that there are only a few people that can understand the true message of Jesus Christ our Lord and God.

(Matthew 7:13-14) “Enter by the narrow gate since the road that leads to perdition is wide and spacious, and many take it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

(Matthew 20:16) “So the last shall be first and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.”

(1 John 3:5-6) “Now you know that he appeared in order to abolish sin, and that in him there is no sin; anyone who lives in God does not sin, and anyone who sins has never seen him or known him.”

(1 Corinthians 1:18-25) “The language of the cross may be illogical to those who is are not on the way to salvation, but those of us who are on the way see it as God's Power to save. -As scripture says: I shall destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing all the learning of the learned. • Where are the philosophers now! Where are the scribes! Where are any of our thinkers today? Do you see now how God has shown up the foolishness of human wisdom? If it was God's wisdom that human wisdom should not know God, it was because God wanted to save those who have faith through the foolishness of the message that we preach. And so, while the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom, -here are we preaching a crucified Christ; to the Jews an obstacle that they cannot get over, to the pagans madness, -but to those who have been called, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is the power and the wisdom of God.”

Dear Johnlove

In examining what you have said, what is the question? You seem to be describing some type of Christian elitism. In answering your statement, I would pick on Matthew 20:16. Which says: Matthew 20:16 (KJV)
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

This verse comes at the conclusion of the parable of The Agreed Wages and the Vineyard Workers. First there are two types of Calling. A General Calling which is to all mankind, and an effectual calling which is where Christ’s calling has a positive impact on a person who heeds the call to salvation. We can see this in the parable in verse 2 where they agreed together for their wages. Just because the calling has had a positive response and that God has chosen to put His blessing of salvation on the person, does not mean that the person has no say or choice in the matter. The Bible never talks about God ‘NOT CHOSING’ people unto salvation.

Similarly in Romans Chapter 1, the Apostle Paul says that the evidence of creation is everywhere to be seen, therefore man is without excuse. (Man’s responsibility).

As Christians, we must not be proud that God has ‘chosen’ us unto salvation because it is all of Christ and not of ourselves. We should be weeping for the lost.

I pray these comments may be good for discussion. Christ’s prophet. Certainty for eternity.

How wrong you are! Read the following scripture, and ask the Holy Spirit to let you understand.

(Matthew 7:21) “It is not those who say to me, ‘Lord, Lord’, who will enter the kingdom of Heaven but the person who does the will of My Father in Heaven. When the day comes many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, cast out demons in your name, work many miracles in your name?’ Then I shall tell them to their faces: I have never known you; away from me, you evil men!”

(John 12:47-48) “If anyone hears my words and does not keep them faithfully, it is not I who shall condemn him, since I have come not to condemn the world, but to save the world: he who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day.”

Personally, I feel like this is a mistake due to an incorrect translation centuries back. I feel like it doesn't make sense with the rest of what Jesus taught. It should read "for many be called, but few will choose to follow". What are your thoughts?
Just FYI,

Matthew 20:16
[KJV] So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
[NLT] “So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.”
[NIV] “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
[ESV] So the last will be first, and the first last.”
[NASB] “So the last shall be first, and the first last.”
[NET] So the last will be first, and the first last."
[RSV] So the last will be first, and the first last."
[ASV] So the last shall be first, and the first last.

I could find no modern translation that included the "for many be called, but few chosen." and even the New King James Version includes a footnote: "NU-Text omits the last sentence of this verse."
It appears that even the original texts and bible scholars agree with you ... only the old King James translation chose to include that part.

Good catch.

Thanks for doing that research. I appreciate it. I feel a bit more confident in my view now.

I did not laugh. One does not usually laugh at insults.
I am not surprised.
You also did not really ask any question or make any statement in the OP.
You just threw up some verses and waited to claim the status of a prophet (one who speaks directly for God).

I directed no comment towards you and you take insult too easily.

I think that to teach God says, "few are chosen" teaches that God is an elitist god. To teach God has said, "few will choose", prepares a person to feel very lonely sometimes.

Guess what? My creator isn't the English Bible. LOL
Please pay attention while you read.
The Christian Bible is the written Word of God. What the bible says is God’s Word.

I do not disagree with you but God is God and I wish to obey God. The Bible is a book. A book is an inanimate thing. If I obeyed inanimate things that would be idolatrous I think.

Your opinion of God has no validity unless it can be confirmed by the written Word of God. So who cares what you say about God?
You are not listening. Can I believe Jesus has sent you even though you repeatedly ignore his command to "listen"?

The Bible, God Word, written, MIGHT NOT SAY, "few are chosen". DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
