We really need to purge our police forces of these kinds of people as well as the racists there.

Trump may have done us a service in spite of himself by encouraging the insurrection and triggering many many arrests of those who were hidden from our view.

I know that was not his intent, but the consequences are a shift in public opinion, investigations and arrests, promised federal action to investigate Qanon and so forth.

And hopefully the determination to root these folks out of their basements and into a jail cell.

    IMO:

People really need to control their thoughts/words and emotions, also policemen. I have respect for policemen putting their live on the line to help us. And being focused on criminals all day, I am not surprised they end up with more violent thoughts than those who have a different job.

I think policemen really need help to balance their emotions; and being hardened by their job, they probably won't ask for it. It's a known fact that people who fought in wars can go mad from all the violence they have seen there.

Probably being a police man is less intense than war, but still it's clear that they need help, help is more effective than just locking them up in prison

Good points. Rather than purge, the police, get them some therapy.

No reason you can't do both. At the very least, get the disturbed ones off the street.

I think the age of the internet hasn’t helped in that matter. In fact I would argue that it has only exasperated some issues. Whilst it’s great that one could ideally utilise on demand sort of therapy through features on certain apps. This has also allowed for instantaneous reactions. Reactions that are perhaps said in the heat of the moment. Not that this gentleman can use that as an excuse. But recording your every waking thought? Probably not the best idea and yet we do so without thinking.

Maybe in a special prison, where they get the chance to have serious therapy, and stay there until fit for duty again.

Just putting them in jail with criminals for an emotional verbal violent remark does not seem right to me. And IF there would be such a rule (special prison + therapy), that would make them more aware of the seriousness and need to work on their emotions. I think when people are under such stress, it's very easy to become hard and suppress emotions. I suppressed my emotions my whole life, and very difficult to reverse it.

Most of the problems in the world can be traced back to unresolved hidden and suppressed emotions. Maybe they should start with it now. We all have lock down anyway, so plenty of time to work on ourselves. But working on emotions is not easily to do your self. Here in Holland in the supermarkets they put ads that it's good to do yoga and eat healthy. So, it might be that our society already shifts slowly in this direction.

Or a lifetime ban from any kind of law enforcement
or gun possession after they get out of prison.

I think that internet is not the cause of people acting out more violent, but internet is used a lot to express emotions. RF did not take out the negative emoticons for no reason. Probably good we now know that all this violence is there, and people can't hide it anymore (sexual abuse came out in recent years a lot), and now we see that other verbal abuse comes out. So, in a way it seems a big purge of violence is happening now. All people becoming aware of their emotions is a big step in transforming these emotions. So, maybe after all we are heading in the right direction. Till today I always thought it's a lost case "world peace". But looking from this POV, I can see some positive in it. Still, I won't hold my breath, will take a long time, but internet seems to have accelerated changes a lot

You never had a thought in your life like "I like to kill that person", ending up in "IF I could I would kill that person"?

That is probably the tactic of "Christian Hell" also. Scare tactics, so people behave (even if it were out of fear only)

I think it regularly. (I'm thinking it now.)
But I don't advocate to others that we do it.

Being aware of suppressed emotions AND that we should not express our thoughts publicly, I see as the major step
