First Concert and First Album

What was the first concert you went to? What was the first record you bought with your own money?

The first concert I saw was at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle Australia in 1975. The bands were Mother Goose, Finch, Ol' 55 and Skyhooks. I was a shy 14 year old country boy on a date and the young ladies mother was there as chaperone and driver. The tickets were $4 each. When the main act (Skyhooks) played they had a giant model of a penis as a prop, the lead singer rolled around on stage with it and it shot out confetti. I was a little embarrassed and things only got worse when the young ladies mother told my very religious parents about the show.

The first record I bought with my own money was Daddy Who by a band called Daddy Cool.

I bought my first album in 1973. It was Roxy Music's first album. I still have it.

The first concert was an open air free concert on a demolition site somewhere in central London. The main band was the now largely forgotten Wooden Lion.

The first concert I went to was in 1980. Popular band.

The Oak Ridge Boys. May 24. Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. I was 14.

The first albums I bought (two at the same time).

Led Zeppelin, Four and Men at Work, Business as Usual. Walmart, 1983.

I'd seen the Men at Work Concert on HBO and was hooked.

First concert: Colosseum. I was with my older brother when he was buying tickets and asked me if I wanted to go. I said yes, even though I didn't like them. Sheesh. Well, it was an experience...

First album was either King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King or Van der Graaf Generator's Pawn Hearts. I got them at about the same time. Still got them (as CDs).

I saw JJ72 at the 2002 University of Warwick freshers' ball, that was the first gig I ever went to and I lost my wrist watch!

And the first album I got was Echo Park by Feeder

First concert The Byrds, Free Trade Hall, Manchester - I'm guessing 1971, but I stand to be corrected. Rita Coolidge was the support.
First album I bought with my own money .. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Deja Vu

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I think my first concert was at Six Flags Over Georgia, and if so, it was Andre Crouch. But I have been to many, many concerts so I'm not sure.

Weirdly enough, I do remember the first album I bought with my own money - it was the BeeGees Main Course album. I had it for YEARS. Not sure what happened to it, now that I think of it. Prior to that, my parents had bought me Simon And Garfunkel's Greatest Hits and James Taylor's Greatest Hits and several John Denver and Carpenters albums.

First album was Pisces, Aquarius and Jones, Ltd. by the Monkees, bought with my own allowance money.

First concert was August 9, 1968, at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, IL. Headliner was The Association, with The Who. Family went together.

I was still in primary school and bought Chuck Berry's London Berry Blues with some birthday money.

My first concert was when I was a young teenager. My friend was a huge Aldo Nova fan, so we went to see Aldo Nova and UFO.

First album I bought with my own money was Styx Paradise Theatre.

First concert I went to was Scorpions/Bon Jovi in 1985? Minneapolis. This is where I met my first girlfriend. She was trouble, but fun!

First album, not sure tbh I think it might have been Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.

First concert, don't know either, probably some prog rock outfit at Southampton Gaumont. First concert that really made an impression on me was The Damned and the Adverts, Southampton Students Union, 1977. The energy of that night was thermonuclear, my world changed completely right there and then.

First concert I'm really not sure. I remember seeing Led Zeppelin and Santana when I was a sophomore in HS, 1972-3. I can't recall anything earlier besides local bands.

First album I do remember. It was the Jimi Hendricks, "Are You Experienced" album.

I got a paper route when I was 9, so all of the many albums I ever bought were with my own money. One summer afternoon in 1976 (or 77*) I was sitting in front of the TV rolling up newspapers to deliver and this came on the screen. . . .

I didn't know what it was, but strike me down Lord, I ain't never seen nothin' like this, I thought. I had to see what it was. So, I went to the small-town grocery store with my folks, they had a small record selection. They didn't have Rock and Roll Over, so I got Hotter Than Hell.

Out in the car the ol' man gave me ****, so I knew I had made the right move.

Actually, I've only ever been to two concerts and both were much later, and by then I had long outgrown KISS. But I took my girlfriend to see them in 82-83. The place was empty and I was surprised to see someone else in Ace Frehley's place. It didn't do anything for me.

* Summer didn't seem right to me because they usually dropped albums in October/November, so I looked it up and it was November, but maybe the album hadn't come out yet when the commercial aired or maybe it was actually summer of 77 when they probably would have been touring for the album. I always remember it as my being 10 years old, which would have been August 76, but, I don't know.

I remember excitedly buying Red by King Crimson upon its release. Now it is just being issued as a 50th anniversary edition. Sheesh....
I suppose it's testament to it's enduring quality...
